Hospitals in Thailand
after reading the comments from the wife of the Canadian man recently shot and her praise of the hosiptals, i was wondering what everyone else's experiences were?
i mentioned in another post, my experiences have been nothing short of superb. the staff was very friendly but more importantly, i felt they did a thorough job
Phuket International-i went here after a pretty bad motorbike accident when Patong hospital wasnt to my liking. they wisked me right into x-rays since my hip was badly swollen. after just having the bad cuts i went back daily for cleaning and dressing and they were superb. they were extremely dilgent in cleaning the cut and keeping up on any possible infection. plus my adorable nurse ended up going out with me a few times very discreetly 55555
Bangkok Phuket-i seriously thought i was having a heart attack. it ended up being muscle spasms that were putting strain on my pectoral muscles but they went through all the exams, EKG'S and all. then i actually sat down in the doctor's office for an explanation. just top notch
and since my gf is a hypochondriac, we have been in a few hospitals for her and always great care with her also
the US has great hospitals with great care, in my experinces and there are plenty, so , although pleasantly suprised i took the Thai hospital service for granted. now having dealign with the joke of a hospital system in Canada, it is amazing to me what service i have been provided in this "3rd world country"

Always received top notch care at Bangkok Phuket.
Hardly any waiting to speak of. (would still be trying to find a parking place in US hopital. 5555)
And, at a fraction of the cost vs. Amelika.

Had reason to visit Patong General in November last year as a result of some "dodgy" minced chicken.
Was taken to a bed immediately, spoke to a nurse immediately, then with a Doctor 3 minutes later and then treated withing the next 5 minutes.
Very impressed.
And the hospital itself was very clean as well.

My dad went in for 3 nights to Bangkok Pattaya after he had a minor stroke...was top notch, seen this hospital slated a few times over price and quality, but we found it great...within a couple of hours of going in he had had MRI scan, chest x-rays, EKG whatsit and other scans the following morning...found the problem ok and they made the choice to medicate and not operate consulting between the cardiologist and a neurologist.
Drs spoke good English and kept dad happy all the way....maybe not the cheapest in Thailand but they certainly gave no room for complaint and outperformed the UK hospitals ive been in (and ive been in many for great lengths of time)...
That said their eye department doesn't seem as thorough as what I had in Aberdeen (no dilating drops before going in front of the scope, no "look left, right, up, down" etc), but I did have up to 4 hour plus wait times in Aberdeen regularly, even with an appointment.

Went to Patong hospital and was treated within an hour, clean and fast and helpful. When the pain and swelling didnt subside ( No , it wasnt Viagra induced..55) they recommended Bkk Phuket and booked me in...
Top notch service there but a 12,000 bin fo 3 hours treatment which was probably ok in the US but Aus hospitals are free... but the service slow...

My experience of Phuket hospitals....
Patong Hospital - absolutely useless, painfully slow and doctors all fresh grads with seemingly little confidence (not inspiring to a patient in need)
BKK/HKT - Quick acting, friendly staff, assertive doctors, exceptionally clean but maybe a touch pricey..
Phuket International (new) - First class best in Phuket, spotlessly clean, quick, very friendly, experienced Doctors, excellent rates, many a superlative to describe this superb hospital...
Vachira Hospital (Phuket town) - least said the better !!!!

have only been to BKK-HKT Hospital but it was better than anything either in Aus or NZ which wouldn't be hard as both countries hospitals are at chrisis point......
Thought I had suffered a slight cae of bends after diving and rang the specialist there...he got me straight over...a wheell chair waiting at reception and about 2hrs of consultation later I walked out with some meds and a bill for BHT700.....to me that was great value and great service!!!

Bangkok Phuket has been very good, even if they have kept me waiting a fair few times, and rescheduled appointments at a day's notice. I've never been an emergency patient though, just scheduled prenatal visits. We have sometimes wondered if my obgyn is the only one there since he always seems to be in surgery when I'm supposed to have an appointment!
