Laser Eye Surgery
Just for information, not sure if right place to post.
As some know, Ive had an eye inection or a couple of months that is quite debilitating. Sympathy later, please.
The intersting thing is that after having had laser surgery some 12 years ago on eye has regressed and it happened gradually without me being aare of it.
So, I have to get done again but the point of the thread is to advise those of you who have had such surgery, or ae ontemplating it that the usual annual eye checkup is more than adviseable.
The infection I have is usually foun in tenagers nd there is an opinion that laser eye surgery could have been a factor in causing it.
Information only guys.

Knickers!!!
I've been mulling over the idea of Lasik surgery for the last couple of months. I finally decided to go ahead, rang 'her indoors' yesterday, appointments to be made today (Phuket Laser Center), and now you drop this one on me!
Bottom line, would you have it done knowing what you know now?

I suspect the infection was more likely caused by RTGs than laser eye surgery ...

I had blade free lasik on 1/11/07 & am going back for my 3 month check up next week. Have enjoyed excellent results so far, so my opinion is that yes even with knowledge of Dennis problem I'd recommend it. I don't want to sound dismissive but IMHO he's been unlucky. As well as annual check ups the crowd I got it done with do a 1wk, 1 month, 3 month, 6 month & 12 month check included in the price.
I got it done in NZ & if it was done in LOS I would have saved $NZ1,000 roughly but I wanted the follow ups done by the same crowd that did the surgery.
Sorry to hear of your problem Dennis & hope it clears up successfully.

Had it done about 9 years ago and still happy with it, and I am older than most guys on the forum. Had it done in Belgium and go every year to the doc for consultation (not only for laser but also for eyepressure or whatever they call it).

Had it done in 1995 when it first came to Australia, Melbourne in particular, PRK it was called.
And my vision did regress.
Found out some years later that my condition (astigmatism) was not suited to PRK.
Anyway, after another consultation in 2006 I decided to go ahead with incisions....yes cuts.....on the eyes.
Annoying gritty feeling for a day but the vision is good once more.
However.....I would not go through the incision procedure again.

The answer is Yes most definately I would have done it, and am goin to do it again if I am still a suitable candidate.
If you have never known the pleasure of excellent vision without contact lenses or glasses then it feels like a gift from heaven.
Yes by gum, Ill do it again!
Thanks for the good wishes, its on the mend.

Right, that's decided, it's getting done!!
If I can't see who I'm buying drinks for afterwards there will be hell on.
If you see an old fart squinting at the barmaid, it'll be me....
(That's squinting, not squirting.)

Will follow your progress with interest. Not wishing to use you as a guinea pig but I have been considering this for a long time but just don't have sufficient trust in Thai centres to take the plung. Good prices.

I got mine done a few years ago at Rutnin Gimbel Eye Hospital in Bangkok. I posted a lurid description of it on Stickman at the time.
The results were great (so far so good, anyway). Wonderful to be able to open my eyes underwater and actually see stuff. And no more fumbling for contacts the morning after (or forgetting to take them out - nothing worse than contacts stuck in hung-over eyeballs).

i got my eyes done 1 month ago tomorrow, best money iv'e ever spent (well besides the money i spent in LOS of course). I hear about people that did the surgery 10+ yearas ago having minor problems Im just hoping now that the technology has changed so much that people getting it done now wont have any problems.
My vision is a little better than 20/20 without the BS of glasses. Swimming, sports, snowboarding things I love to do will be so much better now without having to be careful of my eyes anymore
So anyone considering it, all I can say is DO IT you will not regret it one bit

I had mine done years ago and have never had a problem. I was warned at the time that eventually my sight would regress as it is a natural process. I think you've just been unlucky Den and probably nothing to do with the surgery.
Is it right that you can get another procedure done after already having it done?
I was never told that.
Yes, i would do it again in a minute, made a big big difference to my life!

The fact is it is a very safe procedure and worth every cent of the cost. It makes a hell of a difference to your life and I had no problems for 12 years.
The infection and the reression may well be linked to the surgery BUT, they may not, no one seems to have a definitive answer.
The point of thr thread is that once you have had it done, do no neglect your sight tests, if eyes start o regress then they can orrect it. You will at leas be awae of the regression, unlike me, nd be able to correct it.
If your doc says you are a candidate then ghet it done, you will never regret it.

Something I'd like to mention that my optician told me to do was that I should always wear polarized sunglasses (as opposed to cheapies) to help aviod cataracts in later life.

I've been thinking of getting it done.
For now I wear contacts that I leave in for 30 days at a time and you sleep with them in.

I had Laser surgery done 9 years ago on one eye, a proceedure that is called monovision. I used to wear glasses for distance only as I had no problems reading. With monovision they corrected one eye for distance and left the other eye alone. Your brain compensates for the two different levels so now I can see clearly reading and at distance without glasses or contacts.
I remember that it took a day or two to adjust to monovision and had some problems with night vision at first (starburst effect) which has mainly gone away but I still have some minor starburst effect just on one side of bright lights. As I inspect roofs for a living....I was concerned with depth perception, and it has never been a problem. Went back and had my eyes re-examined last year and was told my vision is exactly the same as it was following the surgery. One of the best decisions I have ever made...right up there with getting divorced twice and going to LOS!

I had one eye done for a few years before i got the second done. Being a forklift driver at the time this was not a good idea as looking up at pallets above me made one side very near, the other side seemed to be miles away. this caused a few problems with me dropping pallets of bleach and booze!
In my favour i did not kill anyone but after dropping butter all over the truck (took 3 days to clean it ) i was banned from the forklift.

Ressurecting this thread, because I am considering getting my eyes sorted this trip. Done the searches and seems Phuket Laser Surgery Thailand: LASIK Surgery at our Phuket Clinic have a good rap in here. Price list says 55000 for PRK, 66000 for LASIK.
Has anyone got good /bad experiences they can share???

Five months on from my last post (above), and two years or so after the surgery, my eyes are still 100%. Best money I ever spent.

My long range sight is now starting to go, was considering this but a few people have told me if you get the long range vision sorted by laser it worsens your short range vision?? is this correct??
