Golf tips?
Hi BM's, I have a couple of golf (or as we call it whack fcuk) related questions.
I am looking forward to playing some of the awesome courses I've heard about around Phuket and donating many balls to the local vegetation and water hazards that I am sure prolifically cover them. I have seen a couple of threads on the courses and will try to give as many a go as I can, but am really keen to play Laguna(Banyon Tree) and Blue Canyon. I don't want to drag my clubs over if I can help it so am wondering if I can get some tips on where I might get golf balls, tees and other necessities etc without paying resort prices for them - after all I'm only going to give them back at various stages of the round! I am also wondering if anyone knows how to get better rates than the ones published on their web sites? Also can anyone tell me the best and cheapest way to get from Patong to Laguna and back again - and how much I should expect to pay? Thanks, Homer

You can buy an expats card for discounts as some courses...not sure the exact name of it but it is worth doing....
balls....buy used ones from the course.normally hardly used and just fished outta the drink tees....caddies have them...part of the service gloves....can buy at the course for a similar price to home....but bring a preferred one, use leave it and leave it there if you wish

There are two shops in Kathu that sells discounted green fee's, one is run buy a Thai lady and she is very helpful. She even met Pablo at Loch Palm once to deliver to him, without even being at her shop. (He just called)
My dad just bought membership at PCC so I played PCC 18-holes today for 1300 + caddy fee.

Thanks for the advice. might contact a couple of agencies for their pricing.
any idea of which shops sell the discount voucher in Kathu? Guess I can cruise around and find it easy enough. It's not what you know eh Nicke  Any recomendations on courses? they all look pretty good on web sites. I will be there 14 days so have some daylight hours to fill. Will definitely play Laguna and PCC.

Scheen, Yeah we played Mission Hills late last year. Really crabby caddies, course gouged by rain and in general really needed some work on it. Besides, I think it's a course you either love or hate. Clubhouse did nothing for me, stuck up lot! I'll be sticking to PCC and Loch Palm. Planty of variety there and good clubhouses. I'm leaving for Phuket tomorrow. I'll log in with Nick to get the Thursday game going.

Will not stage a pga event though because of lack of viewing space around many of the greens, poorer clubhouse and local accomodation.

Heys guys, Can anyone shed some light on the walking Vs cart. I personally prefer to walk but suspect that you are viewed as a cheap charlie for not getting a cart where it is optional, like Loch Palm. Any views on this?

I walk all the time, I want my exercise. But if you play Red mountain course (loch palm) then a cart is mandatory. The holes is far between and its hilly, a beautiful course thought.

I would say 200 baht for 9 holes and 300 baht for 18 holes is common/average tip to the caddies.
