EXpats- why did you leave?

i think this could be a pretty informative thread and may give some guidance to people on the fence about going to live in LOS

why did you decide to leave your home country and move to LOS?
was there one particular incident that prompted it?
was it a definite move or you just went and never came back?

some of these questions might be too personal to answer for some but others wouldnt mind

i just think ti would be nice to read

You will nead to be a man with a lot of time on your hands to read the replies to the OP.

What you should have asked is

''Why is it worth staying in your own Country and not coming to live LOS''.....

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????

Heres why i don`t want to stay in my home country.......

If your rich in the uk then your fine,no worries.....
If your poor in the uk, druggy, single mum with 14 kids etc then hey don`t worry the state will look after you and give you a house and all the benefits you want!!!!
Where as the middle man with the middle income who is priced out of getting a mortgage or if he can get a mortgage he`s struggling every month.......
Sorry been there, got stitched up by business partner etc, moved back to my folks 2 years ago and now have a decent business again but i have NO intentions of getting a mortgage again.
Everytime i come to thailand i want to be here permanently more and more... ok ok the grass isn`t always greener but for me i am personally after a lifestyle......
I`ve met a great girl in thailand whom i trust and i would like to spend the rest of my life with her, however the next 4 years will be testing times as at the moment i can only do 3 months thailand and 3 months uk etc, i have money in the bank but i`m not prepared to give up a current contract which has 3 1/2 years to run to try and live in thailand permanently.... 4 years time, maybe, we`ll see..... And no i don`t want to bring her back to the uk as for me it defeats the object of wanting to be in thailand in the first place.
All i know is 100% i`m at my happiest when i`m not in the uk and i feel like i leave a part of me in thailand when i board that plane to come home...

This is it for me: I decided to stay in Thailand after realizing that I could have sex whenever and wherever with whoever I want with beautiful young girls,...and at same time enjoy living on a tropica island!

something else, is just my own justifications to convince others (and myself too) that the basic drive to be and stay here could not possible be:..... the PUSSY.
I wonder how many expats could admit it!

Dennis's comment is close..

Rather the special investigations unit (fraud squad) raiding a few locations and having fraud charges bandied about.. Figured it was better to be out of thier reach somewhere sunny..

Euro winters.. Hate the cold climates with a passion..

Damn Dodgy Pikeys!

Personally, it was all put on a plate for me. My Dad had built a very nice villa and the offer to come stay/live was there while it was being built. When i split up with my then GF of 8 years in the UK it was an easy decision to make.

The fact that my brother is also here and my dad not far away in Hong Kong/Shanghai also added to the comfort factor. I have never been back to the UK once as my other family members visit regularly.

It's funny - I thought it would be hard to settle in another country but the first year just feels like you are on an extended holiday and then everything gradually becomes normal to you.

Whilst i am not like Ototto, I even remember wanting a farang GF when i first came here (well before i got here for good but hey..!) but he has a point in thats it IS nice to have so much easy to reach sex around you, but it is not the main reason I came to Thailand.

When I came here to live I came with Kim and was 100% monogamous.. So sex certainly wasnt a driver at all..

Moved to Hong Kong first and loved Asia, then moved back to the states after 3 years there I wanted out and choose Phuket.

There is always something open where you can eat.

No labor unions

No sexual harassment laws at least that I seem to be aware of . You won't be sued if you said "Wow Khun Oum your new uniform really makes your noms look big and your skin looks really white"

As a manager the staff all seem to respect you instead of the tense relations with staff in the U.S.

The expats in Asia are alot of fun, in the states most are married with children and not very adventerous.

Yes the nightlife!

No suits!

Low or no taxes

Low cost of living almost everything is cheaper -insurance, rents, food,

But mostly Asia just seems to be much more fun.

a lot of good points there. Especially the fact its 'fun' and different to the run of the mill lives most people live. I don't mean that disrespectfully as many people are perfectly happy with how they live back home but it just feels like everyday here is a little adventure.

This time.

Money.

Twice what I earn in the UK, no tax and a cheaper Cost of Living.

I'd only left 18 months previously.

The social scene is certainly a lot better in LOS than in OZ,where i come from.

The sex and the abundance of beautiful young girls to look at and talk to is certainly part of the reason i came here.

The lifestyle of being able to go to the beach, golf course,go kart track or another country or other parts of LOS whenever i please is a big plus too.

But i really hated working back home.

The constant cycle of going to work and going home is very boring.

I worked towards chucking in my job for about 3 years, everything fell into place at the right time then.

I count myself as being lucky being able to do it a such a young age.

You guys are all missing another good reason, I was working overseas and was lucky enough to be stationed in LOS. One of the best things for me was getting away from the attitude. Now back in the States after being out for over fourteen years the attitude is even worse.

The people that go around hoping someone will say something they can manipulate into being an insult or as not being PC or politically correct! Most of these same people are on welfare and or being paid by some hand out. If they can connect you with anything your in hot water and everyone is always minding your business and not there own.

In LOS you do your own thing and no one seems to care, here you say or you are precived of saying or doing something that could hurt some ones feelings and the stuff hits the fan.

Any way I want back just because I can relax and not have to pamper people I don't care about anyway.

Unfortunately for us Brits, and please don`t take offence to this but our country is becoming more and more like the USA everyday, were starting to get a massive "sueing" culture over here now too.
And also the pc brigade!!!!
I remember being in London about 4 years ago and seeing a group of muslims burning the union jack and making there voices heard for there hatred of the uk etc etc, whereas if us brits say anything untoward then we are branded as racists etc.....
No i`ve not got a problem with muslims etc but i do think that if you reside in someone elses country then you should make the effort to fit into society and not have to pussyfoot around them!!!

And there you have the catch 22 of free speech. You can come to the USA and legaly demonstrate your unhappiness with the government or an employer. But you can't demonstrate your unhappiness towards other races.
