Aquarium Purchase

I have travelled around Phuket on 3 different occasions now trying to find a shop to buy an aquarium. Is it me or is it illegal to buy a fish tank in Phuket or what ??? I found one fish shop near Rawai but the largest size she had was a kids fish tank about 10inches long.

Where in Phuket can I buy a fish tank about 30" long (2 foot 6) or thereabouts ?
I have never seen a town like it !!!!
Thanks

Depending on the size of you guppies Denver may have some useful experience to convey. ..... just don't mention larger species such as tuna.

Cool Opposite Steveos Bar

In Patong on Phisit Koranee road opposite Steveos (ex Scotties bar) is a pet shop that has some larger tanks.

I breed 'em! Sefton Kills 'em!

We have three 'local' markets a week here in Kamalalalala! There is a 'All things Aquatic' kind of stall on the one opposite Mountain View bar, can't remember the two days of the week this market is on! Silly me! I'm sure a fellow Kamalibrarian will help.

He has some bigger tanks and all yer fishes. Gupsters, little squidgy ones and even pirahna...........I jest you not!

Things to feed them with, plastic and real weedy bits and things that bubble and burp in the tank.

Kamala..............Is there anything you cannot do here? Apart from the 'Lurker'?

Crusty has pointed you in the right direction for fish etc. There are also three more places in Phuket that I can "find", one other place I saw before but must have been down that magic road I can't find again.

My old man got a really nice set up and he's very happy. Unfortunately he seems to have a similar problem as Bee does and the fish "apparently" turn belly up.

Head out of Patong, over the hill toward Phuket. When you get down the hill and are at the traffic lights, turn right. Immediately on the left (5 meters) after turning there is a fish shop (only open a couple hours each day).

Continue driving down the same road past the fish shop (for the second shop) and after around 4 minutes (you've driven past bungy jump) about 500 meters you'll find a small shop on your left just before you get to the busy area of shops after the bend and before the golf course area. It's a small mum and dad shop but very good, good prices and also they will take care of your delivery and set up. Just make sure they wash the gravel before they put it in your system (or the system they supply) as it was VERY dirty when they did it for us and I had to redo it all.

The last place is on Choafa Road in Phuket town. Opposite the school at the intersection and traffic lights. Not sure of the exact address but it's not far down from Phuket Art and Sign. They are farang owned, around 4 to 5 times more in cost, their plants die..... but hey, they've still got stuff

Good luck to you!

Thanks for all the replies and will follow up on all the leads given.
I was told by the fishermen in Rawai last night that it is now illegal in Thailand to buy saltwater fish - is this correct ???

If anyone in Kamala can tell me about the market (waht days and where) I would appreciate it. I am in Cherntalay so is just a 10 minute ride away.

Thanks again

Market is now open only Wednesday's, from Cherntalay, come all the way through the village, pass two sets of lights at the crossroads and eventually almost as you leave the village it is on your left. Only went into so much detail as we have another market opposite Fantasea, but this one 'no hab fit man'

Also read in Phuket Gazette an advert for someone selling a tank and set up, might be worth giving them a ring??

Salt water fish are illegal to collect..

I cant find any dealers of salt water fish on Phuket at all.. The biggest shop is in Phuket town (listed it in another thread) but no salt stuff..

They have huge tanks.. I think 72 inch one last time I went through.

Salt aquaria here sadly do come with the stigma of guys using cyanide and killing off reefs.
