I don't have any suggestions on airlines but how about by bus. You can go on a superior bus for about 750baht each. This normally leave Bangkok about 5pm and arrives in the early hours of the morning.
Just a suggestion.

Air Asia only take bookings 3 months in advance if I remember right, so you may have to wait until end of September before trying to book with them.

I can concur with the 3 month rule for air asia, as I am still waiting to be able to book my flight for November.

On a bit of a tangent, I read a story a few days ago about Air Asia on CNN.com, its quite an interesting success story. I'm all for any company willing to increase competition and make things cheaper overall. http://www.cnn.com/2004/TRAVEL/07/16...ceo/index.html

Download this tool, and it will give you Galileo availabilty. To reduce load on the system, it cycles between up and down, so you have wait until is online again.

Sorry to correct you on this Nicke! I had already booked for my flight 26 Dec 2004 to Phuket and return 3 Jan 2005. The booking dates are up to 2005 for Airasia. But it had just open from last week for year 2005 and I believe its due to announcement by MAS about starting a low cost airline in 6 months! Competition works!

Better book early..I managed to get the ticket to Phuket for RM39.99 (about 400 baht) and return for RM149.99 (about 1500 baht). But my friends who is one customer behind me..RM149.99x2 for return trip. I was lucky.

Malaysian.

Thanks for your replies.

Just tried AA again and it says no flights available between 26th and 28th Dec 2004. I've been trying for months and it always says I am to early, now it looks like i'm to late! Just wondering if it's because I only wanted one way.

Malaysian did you go AA's own site or through an agent?

As anyone tried the bus? is it as grim as it sounds.

Why dont you go on thai air or bangkok air ? they are a little more expensive than air asia but 1 way bangkok to phuket really aint that much

Thanks for all your suggestions.

After spending all afternoon on the internet the only flights we could get were with Bangkok Airlines.

Total cost for 2 adults was 10380 baht, about £140 return all in.

Some of their flights were also booked up too, so I would not waste any time if you need a flight.

Once again thanks for your help.

David and Julie

Hey,
I always use Thai Air.
Go to Thaiair.com and choose booking.
That’s easy and not that expensive, but it looks like a lot of dep. from BKK to HKT is already full. I most to book business class just to get near the date and time I want to go.
A round trip on economy is 5250 and business is 6850 Bath

Hi David & Julie

I use www.airline-network.co.uk
I just done a random search on there using thai air as the airline , using differing flight dates eg..outward 24th , 25th & 26th , return dates anything from say 10th - 15 th jan 05
Prices are usually expensive booking early so i was not surprised to see the whole cost (heathrow-bangkok-phuket ..return) anything from just over £700 - just over £800.
I usually call the number rather than book online nearer the time as for some reason there are a few better deals which never seem to show up in the search engine.
But i did find flights available quite easy & this is only on the 1 airline so it proves there are flights still going which isnt bad considering xmas day is the outward journey & is probably one of the busiest days of the year.
I usually book via this website anything from 2 - 4 weeks before departure & usually get a good deal.
Last april i paid £450 return all in (london-bangkok-phuket) on thai air
Try to bear in mind there are always late deals if you remain patient , there are many airlines to choose from also but internal flights are restricted to only a few companies

I really don't understand why I can't book my flights for november now with Air Asia!!!

With Thai I have to wait more then 3 hours in Bkk! With Air asia, 1 h 30, wich is not only cheaper, but a less long trip!

Response from Air Asia

I emailed Air Asia about not being able to book flights after October, it took 2 emails to get a response when this would be available but this is what they said:

Flight from November onwards will be published the earliest by early of
September 2004.

Thank you for choosing AirAsia.

I wonder if the Malaysian version of the site is different or if you book directly via telephone these dates will be available already. At least we now know when we can book.
