Patong traffic flow to be reversed on odd days
Patong traffic flow to be reversed on odd days
Tuesday, April 1st, 08:41
Police have put forward proposals to the municipality to reverse the direction of traffic flow for the one-way system around Patong at midnight each night similar to the odd/even parking regulations. On even numbered days traffic would travel clockwise as it does now and on odd numbered days it would be anticlockwise.
PAPS (Phuket Accident Provention Society) were given a preview of the proposals and voiced their concern at the consequences of reversing traffic flow from clockwise to anticlockwise at the designated time.
Pol Lt Col Jakiddin Arntya at Kathu Police Station responded to PAPS by saying that each time the reversal took place there would be a period of 10 minutes grace where traffic could go in both directions. After 12.10am anyone caught driving in the wrong direction would be liable to a fine of 500baht or 1 night in the Kathu Monkey House.
An official announcement from the Mayors' office regarding the proposal is expected at midday today.

Patong Municpality, Office of the Mayor
Tuesday, April 1st, 12:08
Deputy Mayor You-rat Sukmaibum appeared and released a statement to the Press saying that the proposals would be put on hold as a significant increase in the current budget was condsidered necessary to cover anticipated Police and hospital staff overtime should the new system be introduced.
A reporter asked the Deputy Mayor if any measures were being taken to curb the increase in road rage incidents around Patong since the introduction of the one-way system. Khun Sukmaibum said he recently had viewed some clips on YouTube and was very impressed with the dancing policeman, Tony LePore in Rhode Island YouTube - The Dancing Cop in downtown Providence (zoomOUT) and he was pleased to announce that all Kathu policemen would be attending dance lessons at Simon Cabaret and will in future dance while directing traffic at all road intersections. Furthermore, as an additional calming influence to drivers and riders, he announced that soft music "like what you hear in massage salons", will be played over the Patong PA system continuously.

Well I for one think it is a good idea and will be bringing it up at the next session of the Farangs Against Road Trivialities meeting at the Town Hall tomollow.
I think you should be able to drive in any direction you want to, day or night, clothed or naked, richer or poorer, for better or for worse.
Amen Brudder. Which way to the Town Hall anyone?

If your already driving around in patong you should already know the dangers and consequences, adding an extra challenge by reversing the traffic on odd days shouldnt be that hard to adjust to, why not reverse the traffic every odd hour of the day? now thats a challenge.

My TGF told me that her TBF was offered a job repaint the direction markers on the road every night.
He actually wanted the job to turn the street signs around.

Is this the same dept that at the same time last year issued a notice stating that Bangla would only be one way for pedestrians? That never happened, so whilst this is an interesting proposal, I am sceptical over whether it will ever be implemented

I hope someone has mentioned the new traffic regulations as he would appear to be walking the wrong way down the street. I am guessing we may have to throw water from alternate sides of the road this year as well!
When will it ever end?????

555 They would have added that the rule will be applied from today for cars and motorbikes and, if it is positive after 2 weeks, the same rule would be applied to the trucks.
