Recently appointed Patong Police General Lika Givadam annouced proposals to make the resort more tourist friendly.
Amongst his initiatives were;
1. A morataurium on building works during the high season, with the exception of essential repairs.
2. A ban on the practice of double pricing, where tourists are charged more than Thais for the same product or service.
3. The introduction of baht buses to provide a transport alternative to tuk tuks .
4. The banning of the practice of bars selling `lady drinks`. Customers will still be able to buy girls a drink, he stated, but the difference is it will be at normal prices. It will be illegal for bars to pressurise girls to hassle for a ladydrink, and therefore `we hope this practice will end, ensuring a better experience for the girls and tourist alike`.

All these initiatives he states will make Patong `a more attractive` tourist destination.

Imagine the Tuk Tuk uproar with baht bus(s) taking all their business. Would really improve the transportation around town though.

And the lady drink thing...well enforcement might be difficult. Sure would be nice to buy a girl a beer at the same price I'm paying.

Hey, there was no mention of closing the bars at 1am, so might be a business friendly police chief.
