Bringing the clan over for Sunday Nicke, just sharpening the end of our guns for close in manouvers and training Alex for the low shots, fortified up the sides of the chevvy for our motorised runs down the Ratty Road, think I should go off and organise the fitness training for the team now, reckoning on 2 pressups each and some powder bomb launching should just about do the trick!!!
See You Sunday!!

No Way!!!
Thanks, but NO thanks.............I hate the whole thing............Been here for the last 6 SongKrans and can't stand the games. Only leading to eye-infections or other problems
My bar is a safe spot, but the problem is getting there without getting wet..............So I guess my staff will take care of the bar while Im staying home eating good food and watching movies........
Anyway, have fun out there (if you can)
Geir

That's it... last year I was in Patong during songkran. When i got home i was grounded for about 3 weeks with a nasty and painful eye infection. Always wondered where i got it from.

Decided to hole up in a hotel room in Bangkok (read that how you like) until the madness is over.

Best decision I ever made was to get back home before Songkran this year. After 4 in a row, I never want to experience another if possible. I hate it.

you killjoys on here, i so wish to run around patong having newbs throw water at me, or if in bkk copping water from unkown sources at all times of the day.
on the other hand watching the children washing the feet of their grandparents/elders in a quiet and respectful manner.
have fun to those in patong who wish to partake, but to the other bms, have a nice day sitting at home with a good book/movie/company and a few drinks.

Songkran today was fun. I just wish it would stop for the day and hopefully I can remain dry the rest of the night. I am not holding my breath on staying dry though.

Dont even think of dressing up for the night. The madness will continue until 6pm tomorrow (at least).
Enjoy a wet night out

Patong = dirty water. Often they fill the just-emptied rubbish bin with water. Not to mention stories of urine and so on...

Chris that's so true.
I recall when I was there after a Songkran drenching...I went back to the hotel room & put my wet clothing over chairs etc to dry out.
When they did dry out, it was a horrible stench & there was no way I was gonna be putting those clothes into my travel luggage, it would have made everything else stink.
A reminder to others, to get your Songkran clothing washed before ya pack.
The water there is far from being clean, even coming outta ya hotel room taps.

This was the first time Ive been here for Songkran and it was a real blast!
Falangs are clearly the biggest target and if you catch em coming into town, you can actually wet em when theyre still dry (if that makes sense)..I only like to give em a small wetting, god knows theyre in for more after me...

As you are in a foreign country it's their custom and you will just have to grin (or maybe not) and bear it!
However if it was the UK and the immigrants hated our songkran, we would probably ban it to keep from offending them!

The way it works here is not their custom.......It gets totally out of hands because of the tourists......

And that is what spoils it.If it was just a dab of water and talc from the Thais, I'd have no problem with it, but those buckets of ice water are just not funny.
Is it the farangs that have taken the custom to the next level with all the soakings, because the Thais sure look like they are enjoying it too?

Wow lighten up guys, Rog, Geir, ATM, MWM can see you guys do not like it but wow every other post on a couple of threads is you guys moaning, we know you don't like it or you'd be here enjoying it like the rest of us!!!
Its mainly 2 or 3 days of water fighting, there are elements of danger as the statistics show, they have tried this year to keep these to a minimum, stopping traffic, giving out leaflets of do' and don'ts, threatening fines if non complying. Ice buckets on motorcyclists is dangerous and should be fineable offence, just do not go out on a bike in area's you know you'll get water at you or if you do drive very slowly.
Its a celebration for Thai New Year, hoping to get the rains to come. Its country wide and enjoyed by Thais as much as Farang. This will be my 4th Songkhran. I do not partake for all 3 days just the final day and then only for the afternoon, enjoying having a few beers, getting soaked, laughing at all the funny things happening on Bangla and sharing the fun with a load of friends.
hopefully many others enjoy the unique experience that is the Thai New Year.

You have to agree tho' Bernie, its far easier for locals to just take to their homes and stay away from it , like yourself, if you want.
For trippers who save for a year, and get 3/4 days of their holiday ruined by mindless soakings 24/7, its a different story.
As you say though, some like it, others don't, and avoid it if possible like I did this year.

I'm with Geir, Dawsey and the majority of the posters in this thread so far. Been here for a few Songkran's already and keeping myself away this year. Already got a sinus infection so good timing to stay away and get better on the meds.
I also prefer not to drink my beer while everyone is throwing trash or piss water around on me and falling into my drink.
I can understand holiday-makers, Nicke and Dodger enjoying it with their youngsters as well.
Have a good time all and be safe out there in the trenches!
