International Songkran Celebrations
I see there's a thread about the celebration in Belgium & in that thread there's mention of one in Dubai.
I'm in Christchurch, NZ & there's one here tomorrow. I just thought it's be interesting to hear where else in the world BM's know of Songkran happenings

Keeping myself amused here then
Anyway I went along to the local Wat in Christchurch to have a look at what goes on in NZ for Songkran. The only people getting wet were kids/teenagers, so I was safe.
Apologies for the quality of the pics, but they will give a general idea if anyone's interested

The girl in the black was an incredible dancer, haven't seen anything like it since my last trip. The pics don't do her or her movements justice, but the more wriggling she did the more that skirt/long top rode up - & this was a family show! Wonder how she'd go with a pole to dance with...

Went to the songkran event yesterday in Antwerp (Belgium). They had a little market set up with plenty of food stalls (aroy mak!), handycraft stalls,..., thai massage (not soapy of course 5555),a podium/temple and a podium for thai dances.
1) Had a nice thai vibe going on : smell of thai food, plenty of tg's(sure have a lot of them in Belgium), thai music, eating on the street from a plastic plate, people talking thai everywhere including the ladies uttering loud "ooooi's" when it started to rain a bit
2) ...with a Belgian touch cause it was only about 12° and pretty windy
3) quite a few of my countrymen landed themselves some real stunners
4) thank god no water splashing (see 2)
Here some pics:
#1 plenty of good thai food and snacks
#2 adding some thai vibe
#3 little temple where they put water on budha
#4 same same
#5 very crowded
#6 had 3 tuk tuks doing little tours
#7 an obvious sponsor
#8 those poor girls where freezing
#9 some traditional dancing

In Perth
Over the weekend the local Thai community held a two day celebration at The Supreme Court Gardens In Perth. From memory this is the second year that it has been held at this lovely venue
I was unable to attend but drove past a couple of times. There appeared to be stages for music and dancing, lots of stalls, food etc. It looked very colourful, well patronised and the magnificent Perth autumn weather did them proud. Both days were sunny and about 30c.
Next year I must find the time to attend.

There are about 80,000 Thais in Los Angeles. "Thai Town" near Hollywood is vibrant. There were ads for Sangran. And news reports of the sanook had by all. I just wished I could have attended. It sounded a blast, including the water fights.

Songkran was celebrated in Sydney on Sunday at Darling Harbour. Didn't go though. Stayed in the pub.
