Cool Mobile Phones

Hello All,

I have a couple of spare mobile phones and I read or heard somewhere that they fetch a reasonable price in LOS. For example, I have an almost new Nokia 6100 (no camera but colour screen with mms) and have been offered £50 quid for it here. Assuming I manage to get a spare phone or two past customs, are they worth any more there than here?

Any comments will be appreciated.

doubt most shops will buy them, some you may be able to sell to the girls if they are unlocked, but most would be more appreciative if you gave them to them for free.girls are forever asking me to give them my fone over there.you may have some luck in the markets selling but i doubt your gonna make any decent money on them.

Thanks for that. I'll dispose of them here and take the cash with me to give to the girls in return for their wonderful company.

The most popular card is One-2-Call from AIS, cost 800 baht and you can call for 500 baht, the card is refillable by 300 or 500 baht refills.

I dont know if 7-Eleven sell the starterkit but you can buy in any mobile shop, refills can be bought everywhere.

i use 1-2-call in thailand. as well as what nicke has said you can buy 50 and 100 baht topups.top up and get a month of service added to the card, you can then reuse on next visit my thai sim is valid til feb next year after a few topups this trip.the 50 and 100 baht top ups cost 10% more so 100 baht top up is 110 baht but 300 and 500 are them prices.

dtac

I just bought a DTAC starter kit for 199baht with 50baht calls incl. from a 7-11
they obviously sell the top up scratch cards as well.

dialling 009 first gets a cheaper international call.

Yes, I remember we talked about this.

Roaming is always more expensive than buying a local Thai SIM card, in case of roaming, your local mobile phone operator will add his charges to the fee.

Dont think you get so much money for it, unless you have Thai language in your phone, the manual and the original box....

You can trade your mobile phone in against a new one at any of the mobile shops, but the price of trade in is not great.

I dont know about a cash sale to them but I agree with R3aps a nice present for a LT BG, make sure you wait until you're leaving befor you give her it, but hint all the way thru it could be hers if she is a very good girl

Phones used to be highly taxed in Thailand and were quite a price premium from Europe.. I also knew people who were unlockers and would buy phones locked to pre pay sims and then unlock them.. Nice phones for 50 Euros.. Also they used to sign up for loads of contracts and not pay them and just keep the phones.

Many times on my visits to Thailand I used to bring 5 or more of the highest end phones I could get for cheap... Then my girl would sell them among her friends... couple of hundred Euro spent out and get 75000 - 100000 back.. As we were coming over about 4 times a year for a month a time it was a easy little sideline that paid for the drinks.

Anyone using 12Call should be aware that dialling *777 you can switch to freedom bonus that is 2.5 baht a minute...

which one is better ?
AIS One-2-Call or DPrompt (DTac)

i plan to buy the DTac because there is a good online english version guide
and cheaper internatioal call.

Can anyone confirm below rate is correct
DPrompt charge 5 bath p/m, One-2-Call charge 4 bath p/m

Pretty much equal (steer clear of orange).. 12Call can be set up with the freedom Plus (dial *777 and select it in the menu) then its 2.5 baht per min and 2 baht per SMS.. Also they have told me that if you spend >1200 (or 1500?) in a month you then get a further 25% off but have no way to verify that.

I favour 12Call but its not a big issue.

Hi, djmyst!

You should keep in mind that almost every mobile phone sold in Norway has a SIM lock or Network lock. If you buy a phone in Norway and intend to use it with a SIM card from Thailand (or any other country or operator for that matter) you have to unlock it first.
Your operator in Norway can help you with that for free if your phone is older than 12 months. If it's not 12 months old, they will ask for a fee.
However, there is other ways to get the unlock code. Try a quick search on internet, or send me a PM.

After you unlock your phone it's no problem to use it with other SIM cards. I have a Thai SIM I use when I'm in LOS, and it works fine (One-2-call)

Thaiger.....
