Sister, brother can refer to relatives that they have in care or look after, If distant relatives not in care I think it's just cousin, not sure about this though. "they find it hard to pronounce the r", must tell the mrs to stop making that lovely "raw rua" sound from the thai alphabet, a superb rolling r sound, issan dialect doesnt seem to have the r, but any thai with a modicom of schooling can make that sound, not using the r sound is basically laziness.
