Movies showing with no subtitles?

Just looked at the listings for Central and Jungceylon. ALL the movies showing say Soundtrack/No Subtitles.

So if you go with a Thai to see an English movie there is no Thai subtitling? Anyone been in the last day or two?

When there is the Thai subtitling do you think it is fairly accurate?...does it actually translate into Thai what is being said in English? I watched a Pirates Of The Caribbean DVD and had the English subtitles running and most of the time it was utter gobbledegook. Very funny to read a lot of the time but if you were relying on it you really wouldn't have a clue what the dialogue really was. I guess it's the same in reverse?...when there's Thai subtitling it would be as if Sir Stanley Unwin had done it!

The pony DVD's are home done translations.. If you get a proper region 4 asian release DVD (or a pirate with real legit subs) they make sense so I am told.

I assume that cinema subs are also of a good standard.

Even in the cinema the Thai subs can be quite inaccurate. I guess its not always easy to provide a direct translation for slang or idioms, but occasionally the Thai subs have a totally different meaning from the English. The same thing happens with Thai dubbing. I remember watching The Mummy in English and not enjoying it very much. Later, i watched it on video with Thai dubbing and it felt almost like a different film, and it was much funnier.

ps. Copy DVDs have terrible Thai subs. Almost total nonsense. I sometimes wonder if the person who writes them is Thai, its that bad.
