Little passport advice please

Ladies/Gents

I require a little help on getting my new passport, i am in Bangkok just now, need a new passport before heading back to work, my issue is when i hand in my paperwork to get the new one, i also have to hand in my old one, which will leave me passportless, i would like to come to phuket next week but can i travel without it?? i do not have any other form of identification really, i have an old passport(corner cut)but i guess this makes it worthless.

I did have a look on the website and also tried to call, but they are closed now for the weekend, the FAQs on the website say not to try and travel abroad without a passport, but nothing about internal flights.

Any help appreciated, not the end of the world if i cant travel, just have to go to Pattaya instead.

Cheers for any help and perhaps see you soon, depending on the outcome of this

If you have a copy of your passport and another id-card (Visa card) it should be enough. Take a cab to the airport and explain your situation, and Im sure it will work out.....
On the other hand, I guess a bus to Phuket is a big no-no

When I needed to get my passport renewed in Bangkok, they didn't keep my current passport and only voided it after I received my new passport.

I opted to pick up my new passport so therefor they can void the old one at the same time. If I was to have the new passport shipped to me, then they would have required me to hand in my current passport at that point and I would have been without.

Maybe double check to see if you can hold on to your current passport until they issue you with your new passport, then they can void at that time....

Friend (senior citizen: Tinman GM for Crusty) has traveled with a copy of his passport (laminated) and he's been ok with that. Thai driving license is also OK for travel (I've done that) - I'm not sure but maybe a foreign DL with photo might be OK as well.

No need Simon, I got anew passport at Bangkok last year, they wanted to take my old passport and said it would take x days and they would send it to me.

Firstly I pointed out it is a requirement in Thailand to carry my passport at all times and secondly how was I going to get back to Phuket by plane with no passport.

They agreed and stamped all the paperwork as passport seen and gave it back to me.

In your case, they should do the same and you could hand back your old passport when picking up your new one the following week.

I did the same thing last year with my US passport.

Being in the oil game I am amazed you dont have 2 Si.. Really helps in lots of situations.. I always have 2..

As said above, they can let you keep one, or you can usually fly with a copy and a secondary proof of ID (driving license ??) but expect some explaining.. I keep my Thai DL's for this kind of stuff too.

I could/should have 2, but i do not really need it due to my work, a lot of the guys do have 2, but those are the guys flitting from country to country every month, i am based in a single country so its not as required, but obviously would have helped me in this situation.

Just get your company to write a 'covering letter' i.e. you need a second passport for your employment etc and they should sort you out with a second one. I got mine for Isreal and Egypt (Both pedantic countries when it comes to having the others stamps in them) Winkers.

Anyway, walk, it'll do you good.

When do you get here Si?

Shame you can't do it at hom.e- cost is double through the embassy as I found out last month. UK approx 73 sterling, here over 7000 baht and it would appear that it was produced at the embassy

So a little update on my situation

Went to the consulate today, they will only give me my new passport on the 26th of this month, they took my old one and gave me a signed/stamped copy, so i am good to travel within Thailand with this.

Only slight problem is that i am leaving here on the 24th , not yet sure what i will do, will contact them tomorrow to see if there is something i can do to speed things up, but i am not very hopeful.

Cost of the 48 page passport was 9,360.

Not sure why i did not think of this before, but i think its a bigger problem than i thought, i was going to apply for a new 15 day Angola visa on my old passport, but i think i will have to wait for my new passport before applying, these things take up to 2 weeks after you hand in all the documents.

So looks like i am stuck in Thailand for a while yet, back to back will not be pleased, again.

maybe make it to phuket yet.
