Bye Thai Airlines!
as I travel regulary to Thailand, i always took Thai air.
My trip from Nice to phuket : 975 Euro
For fun I checked the Kelkoo site!
Exactely the same trip: lufthansa: 725!
Meaning same stopover Frankfurt, Bangkok!
pitty I always liked the Thai athmosphere when starting the trip with Thai-air!
But..this difference is way too much!

I used to travel Thai Airways too but during the last months, I noticed that their prices increased without (maybe because more and more tour operators are using Thai airways so maybe all the low fares are reserved by them?). Last year, I travelled with Malaysia (BRU-HKT was 699 when Thai asked 1040 ).

Yep
Strangely Malesian is also expensive from Nice!
I have a theory that explains partely this difference!
I fly from Nice, all the way to Bangkok with Lufthansa!
As I take the overseas flight, I think they always charge nothing, being the same company to Frankfurt!
Thai Airways has to charge either air France, either lufthansa, for their oversea flight!
Still the difference is too important!

for regular travellers to LOS
if you travell a lot between los and europe you can save quite a bit by purchasing open returns in thailand. there are generally 3 categories - 3 , 6 , 12 month opens with 3 month being the cheapest option.
The only problem being that when u get back to europe and have that open return in your pocket....the main reason i made 10 trips last year!!! http://www.phuket-info.com/forums/im...ons/icon10.gif

That is not a theory but reality. The moment you change carriers, different fare calculations come into play, regardless of all this alliance crap. No point in getting angry about it.

Hi Tintin,
Last May, I booked my tickets via a travel angency with Air France.
From Brussels to Paris with Thalys, then a direct fly from Paris to BKK, and from BKK to HKT with Thai Airways.
I paid +/- 720 euro. But it really dpends on the season. The best is to avoid to fly during the school holidays.

Not sure ... From Brussels, I used most of the times 2 different carriers and sometimes even 3. For BRU-BKK the lowest fare I paid was 540 the most was 990 , both with Thai. As you can notice, prices are still increasing.
Here is a sample of the fares a provied by my TA:
In this example, I asked for a a return flight Brussels-Bangkok. Departure on JAN 28 and return on FEB13. The price asked by TG is 2x THY !!! I suppose that TG has not yet published it's promotional fares. I must say that last year I had the 699 BRU-HKT ticket with Malaysia only in November (before their prices were quite higher).
Turkish Airlines..: BRU-IST-BKK-IST-BRU********* 660,00 + 46,89 = **706,89
Eva Airways.......: BRU-LHR-BKK-LHR-BRU********* 626,00 + 81,13 = **707,13
Gulf Air..........: BRU-LHR-AUH-BKK-BAH-LHR-BRU* 653,00 + 81,15 = **734,15
Air France........: ZYR-CDG-BKK-CDG-ZYR********* 791,00 + 29,76 = **820,76
Malaysia Airlines.: BRU-LHR-KUL-BKK-KUL-LHR-BRU* 736,00 +118,31 = **854,31
Swiss.............: BRU-ZRH-BKK-ZRH-BRU********* 839,00 + 46,97 = **885,97
Lufthansa.........: BRU-FRA-BKK-FRA-BRU********* 823,00 + 73,43 = **896,43
KLM...............: BRU-AMS-BKK-AMS-BRU********* 916,00 + 50,79 = **966,79
Cathay Pacific....: BRU-LHR-HKG-BKK-HKG-LHR-BRU* 895,00 +104,14 = **999,14
Singapore Airlines: BRU-FRA-SIN-BKK-SIN-BKK***** 938,00 + 90,15 = 1.028,15
Thai Airways Intl.: ZYR-CDG-BKK-CDG-ZYR********1.754,00 + 75,16 = 1.829,16
Regards,
Bobby
