I am hoping to do a Open Water diving course in January, would appreciate some feedback on any schools and if I need to book in advance from any BMs who have done a course in Phuket.

I have good experience from Merlin Divers in Kamala beach. I have done many daytrips with West Coast Divers, they have a good fleet.

But a boardmember here have a dive company in Karon, Sunrise Divers. He may also be able to help you.

Thanks for the feedback Nicke I have looked at both of those and a few others just need to know if I can turn up on the day or if I need to book well in advance.

I would rather give my business to another BM...........

I think it`s a thread on this subject here somewhere.
Anyway, I don`t think you need to book in advance unless you`re there for only a couple of days and you want to go with a spesific company.

Shop around for the best deal, not the cheapest price...
How many dives, WHERE you do your dives, WHERE you do your classes and exercises, discounts on daytrips and rent of gear after you complete your course etc.

PS! My best tip is to read the theory-manual and do the quizes at home before you go to Phuket. It can be very difficult to consentrate in the evenings...

have to agree do as much of the course that you can in your home country,
night diving can last a lot longer than you thinnk.

I did the PADI Open Wather in April, used Scandinavian Divers on Bangla rd.
think I paid 11000bht for it.

I dived with Sunrise Divers last year and had a very good experience but this year I will be diving with Live and Let Dive as I got to know the proprietor quite well and he offers a very good deal on both diving and accomodation. There is a website at www.liveandletdive.com

I am planning to learn to dive and have booked with Sunrise Divers for my trip in November. I am hoping that my experience is as good as the others have said. I chose the Open Water course with the dives at the Similan Islands. I guess its pricey but in comparison to the cost of the courses around here and in 4 days I will have learned diving and visited a top dive site, I figure its worth the extra money.
