Playing around
I will be in Phuket from the 18th October and am hoping to play a bit of golf. As a follow on from another post, would any BM's be interested in playing around during this time.
I think a round at the Phuket Country Club with club hire and all the bits and pieces is quite reasonable.
Any suggestions would be good.
I started a thread about playing some squash which generated a bit of interest so perhaps a golf ladder could be fun too?
I think if I do some exercise during the day it might keep my fitness going at night

Checked with Mr K (my mate I will be on tour with) and he is interested as well, although he did express his concern of a full 18 eating into his drinking time...lol...he reckons 9 would do it but as I said we will be sure to catch up and see how we are travelling

IVE PLAYED THE 18 ON MANY OCASSION AT PCC AND THE LAGUNA CLUB [BREAT TRACKS]AND HAVE ENJOYED IT........BUT IT TAKES NEARLY 6 TO 7 HOURS OF YOUR DAY...THATS FROM WHEN YOU LEAVE YOUR HOTEL AND ARRIVE BACK..
THE 9 HOLE COURSE IN PCC IS PERFECT..........ITS A TOUGH TRACK AND VERY ENJOYABLE..AND ALL IT TAKES IS 3 HOURS FROM HOTEL AND ARRIVING BACK AT HOTEL !!!!!!

I also like the 9 hole course at Country Club, and 3 hour game is enough for me, and PCC is close to Patong.
It was very fun to play with BMs in July.

Sounds good. I would be happy to play 9 with some BMs. Could be a good laugh.
I still want to play 18 holes too, I might be a bit of a Masochist.
What was the equipment and caddies like?

I've heard they have some good courses in Phuket? What do you think of them?
Do they have BGs for caddies? If not, can you bring your own BG to caddy for you?
Do most people use carts or walk. What is the course par for 18? How long are the courses, i.e., 6600 yards, 6800 yards, 7000 yards, 7200 yards??
How's rough's the rough? Are the courses flat or hilly? Do they have a lot of doglegs or mostly straight.
How are the traps? Many of them. Just around the greens or by teh fairways also. Are there many water hazards?
Inquiring minds want to know

Info on golf and ratings
I've now golfed all the courses and here's my ratings.
#1 Blue canyon canyon course
#2 Blue canyon lakes course
#3 Phuket Country Club some greens are tough.
#4 Loch Palm, they have carts!
#5 Banyan Tree even though I find it the easiest.
You cannot bring a BG to caddie even though I think you are kidding. The caddies work very hard and you would be putting one out of work. Also I have found BG don't work very hard in terms of lugging glof clubs etc. The thought of working 9 hours in a restaurant for 6,000 baht to them is not imagineable. They all seem to me to want to sleep late, eat around 4:00pm, do a little shopping, then go to the bar. I know it's a generalization but I've seen this quite a bit.
#304 on PCC is very cute ask for her. Not much of a caddie but very easy on the eyes.
Many holes have water all around and usually the rental clubs are ok but not great. Tip your caddie at the end of the round 300-500 baht depending on how good they were. (Did they tell you the green break without asking, did they tell you there is water 250 yards in front so don't use a driver?)
The 9 hole at PCC is probably one of the toughest 9 holes on the island and this comes from Jeff the pro at Blue Canyon.
Drink lots of water on the course and make sure you have an umbrella with you as well as many times it will rain intensley then stop.
Hope this answers some questions.

I only played with Tarzan and another guy one time after you left Jonny.
Jaybee, for some info about the courses, look at www.phuket-info.com/golf.htm
The 9 hole course at PCC is a nice course, lot of hills and water and some doglegs.
I like to walk althought carts are available for rent, I want some exercise. You dont need to worry about the bags since the caddies take care of it for you.
For a 9 hole course at PCC I think we paid about 1200-1300 baht in July for shoes, clubs, caddie and greenfee.

Who's up for it 9 or 18holes once a week say...
I've applied for PEGS yesterday,
I heard membership entitles me to 50% off course fees, is that correct?
Cheers,

I know lots of guys from the Offshore on Nanai do rounds together (of the golf veriaty) they all got into these expat cards which save them the cost of the card afgter only one or two rounds.
Dunno about hiking in the midday sun !!! Seems a bit mad dogs and englishman to me..

Yes, I am also going to play more golf. I played with Jonas, Ozskin and Irish Jonny recently.
I am also going to apply for PEGS now when I want to play more often.
We paid 850 baht for the 9 hole course without discounts and own equipment.

Membership of PEGS gives you discount on the courses, so I pay 1300 on the Loch Palm. Getting on the Canyon Course is more difficult I tought, only certain hours or so... Luckily my old schoolmate is a member.
