Closed Thread??

First off, yes I realize this board is the sole domain of Nicke and Crew, to do as they see fit...and I support that as the facts that they are, but I was wondering what the logic is behind closing threads?

So they won't do what exactly? Again I'm just curious here, it just seems odd...at least I haven't see this done before so I was wondering the causes for closing a active thread.

I guess my second purpose was to bring it up as a little bit of a concern, I have seen other boards get way too involved in trying to control things and frankly one of the reasons I have stayed around was for the lack of controls persay, I don't like to see a lot of measures of control in place...if a memeber gets out of line around here, the local bm's usually are quick to act...in keeping things in some what order.

Anyway...I know it is not my place to say anything, but this has been one of the few places I've always felt I could say what was on my mind and the people here would deal with it in there own way...just hope we are not going to lose that feeling.

If there is a risk a thread could turn into a flaming thread we will close it. I am for free speech but I dont want see flaming towards eachother because people dislike somebody. I want this a friendly board, not a board where people attacking other members. That kind of threads dont add anything to the forum.

Such discussions should be in private messages.

Or did you have other kind of threads in mind??

Im probably one that should shut up now, but i think Nicke and Stevem is doing right..
As i have said in a PM to Stevem, i truly regret my flaming against Tintin. Not that i hunted him over this site, but that i did it public...
I should have known better and sent him PM`s instead.
It doesnt look to good on this board when you see two guys fighting..
I know that Nicke didnt create this board to be like that. And i dont think anyone want to be part of a flaming board.
I also like when you can discuss things without being afraid of being cencored, to have a little "freedom of speach". But when Tintin and i had our fight here, it went over the hill....

I think it is good that Nicke and Stevem put down their boots and get a grip on everything now. In the future when things start to be nasty, maybe they can PM those that argue, and ask them to calm down.Maybe give them a "red card" for a couple of days if they dont listen. They can read, but not post...
If someone had told me to calm down in the middle of everything, i would have done it. Not only does it affect me, it makes new members afraid to post, and that is a shame. As it is now, it is the "usual" ones posting. There has been a lots of new members the latest year, and dont we all want to hear new storys and get new wiews on how people see things?

Thats all i am going to say about this.

Cheers.

Agreed.

Thanks nicke for the clarity, I can tell you from my personal experience that the more control you put the more it takes to keep control...its like the saying leave a sleeping dog lie.

I agree it looks good on paper to try and control the antics of the few, I was just a little concerned that the quickness to act becomes a little to frequent and would take a little away from the board, by no means was I trying to point out some kind of injustice, this was just my way of understanding the direction we are headed in...ie so I myself don't cross any lines as it were.

Thanks again for all that you do here...its been a great outlet.

may be a card system like in football
offenders recieve a yellow as a warning
2 yellows as a final warning and
a red for moderators to decide if the offender should be suspended etc

They have a system like this on the pattaya talk forum, there are 5 small bars on the left hand side of each members posts and profile info.

These are warning levels , like a meter system

If you reach warning level 5 then you will recieve a final warning via a pm from the moderator so that if you do it again after this point , you are off the board for good.

However i think there is a period inbetween where they will take warning levels off bar by bar for members who adhere to the moderators warning so that if say you were on level 2 , be a good boy and eventually it will go back to 0.

Not a bad system , perhaps Nicke could introduce this to cut down on any nasty behaviour
