Why has Tintins thread been deleted?

Hi,

About 1 hour ago, Tintin put up a very sensible post. He apologized for a lot of things which he knew he had done wrong, and he also went on to say he had received some very nasty private messages.

I personally feel that there is a bit too much deleting of theads/posts and there is too much closing of threads.

This forum has survived for many years and is going from strength to strength. This also reflects well for the bar business of Nicke. A lot of the members feel Mai Thai Bar is a good 'base camp' to meet each other and have fun. You can also see some benefits for a couple of other bar owners in Patong as we share between us places we enjoy going too.

I totally understand that you want to protect what has been built up, but that goes equally for us board members who have built it. I have seen many times where a 'newbie' has posted, or went to post some 'rude' pictures and this has been condoned by the rest of the forum.

Of course Nicke has the final say as to what the content of this area must be about, but I feel it has grown to be something special purely because we are not totally censored.

My views also back up an earlier, similar posting from Heywood.

That particular post contains details of threats, which have no place on a public board. He has been asked to repost without those details included.

hi to all...
this is my post, maybe the last one...
in fact i dont know exactly what is the "problem" with tintin, and if he did something really bad or not ( if so maybe it's time to say what...) but for me i have post some words about a "question" that seems to upset a lot of BM... for me (and lot of my friends coz i ask them what they think about it ) it was not so "big trouble" maybe i'was right or wrong ( and maybe tintin is or not ) but the fact is almost every person who write a post where very aggressive , almost intolerant and very rude... never thinking that maybe it's not a place for a trial or judgement... as i says in my last post : iwas really happy to go for my first trip to los and meet other BM but in fact i'm not sure to claim i'm a BM anymore....
i will try not to judge anyone but a lot of post sais that western people are sooo bad, western girls are soooo arrogant, and western way of life is so "agressive" have you ever think that YOU ( WE ) could be part of IT....????
as i say i dont want to "fight" anyone, just give my opinion ( if it's still possible )... by the way i will continue to read posts on this forum for grabbing good information.. but probably never post again...
PS : thanks to all the people who just help other for nothing and never try to judge anyone but try to understand people and help them with a different point of view....( sorry for my english grammar and vocable )

And just to clarify, before people start to think otherwise, the threats were not originated by the poster.

Smile Sorry for Tintin

SteveM,
I feel a bit sorry for Tintin really. He has said a few things that have grated with me in the past few months but so have a few others. However from my experience of other forums and newsgroups, there are allways an 'inner circle', who can say anything , and one or two 'whipping boys' who get blasted for any little verbal indiscretion. Tin tin seems to have been chief whipping boy since i joined the forum.
I read Tintins original post, and i agree with MikeGB that it was very sensible (and quite sad really). There was one bit which i think is the bit you have deleted it for, that had anybody else said it, i think it would have been taken as 'tongue in cheek'.
When i first joined the forum during the time of my first trip to LOS, it seemed a lot more tolerant than it has over the last month or so. Now , quite often a newbie is 'shouted' at for not looking at FAQ or doing his own searches. Not by most members i agree, but there are some that do. I think a PM to those that do so would be worthwhile, even if it is one of the inner circle. Sometimes one of the regulars who are normally very helpful and friendly will reply to a post (generally from a newbie) that is way out of character with their normal personality. As one who accesses the forum quite a lot, and has built up a mental picture of these regulars, I can generally interpret this as either tongue in cheek, joking or just that they have had a bad day - we all have them. However, it will surely inhibit that new person (and others) from having their say about issues.
.
Not trying to criticise the way you moderate the forum, (a thankless task and one i wouldn't like to do), just making a comment on how i interpret what has been developing recently.
This is probably the friendliest and most open forum that i have belonged to, and i for one, would like to see it remain that way
A bit more tolerance from all i think.

Any post by any BM which threatens or details of threats towards anyone will be deleted. And I would say, these types of posts would not be tollerated on anyother board either.

Cool

I can understand Aussiebutterfly's apprehension to post but I totally agree with Irish Johnny that " EVERYONES POINT OF VIEW IS WELCOME " I love reading all the posts even the ones I dont agree with. If I dont like or agree with a post I dont bother responding to it or reading it again. No problem to me I just dont worry about it. Got use to reading all the posts made by H.J which were always controversial and caused heated discussion Just didnt bother to get involved loved reading them though great fun to watch other people get all heated up. Anyway keep up all the posts good and bad! And dont let others worry you Aussiebutterfly. Cheers. BTW Love reading dirty Mikes posts they are always good value.

So I try this to post again! Without details and names!

Thank you for some people defending me, I appreciate, I guess I am not too bad!

This will NOT be my last post! But, when the post war started, a bit to my own suprise, some people started to write some very agresive post, that I first countered with my special humour, not to start a rumble in the jungle.

Some people persisted though, attacking me with posts that had nothing to do with the subject! So this started to escalated, and that began to put the board into a mess. i tried to only loose my cool in pm's!

This is the original deleted messsage:

That I have to write this! I sincerely hope the webmasters will NOT delete this!

I can understand that not everybody likes me! I have made some stupid posts, but also some nice ones! I am hancicapped and maybe the way of being too cheerful about my life, just has made some BM nervous!

But to get a PM from a board member, revealing my real name, and treatening me, that is over the line!

Saying to watch out for my family, that it is the worse you can do to a person!

So I will take this seriousely, because I do not accept to be treatened, on a board about the love of Thailand and life!

Although obvious some people hate me, I had very warm reactions of other people, who understood that I wanted to show that life is wonderful, if you wanted it to be!

After all the misery I had in my life and be able to appreciate what you have, and be happy with your life is not always to degenerate the others!

I often tried to say: "Listen people I love LOs, but you can be happy also outside it! I had to fight for that being disabled, sick as a youngster, and still managed to be happy at the end!

I wish this for everybody, but not for this person!

So please do not be agressive on this post, it is not meant to be, but I cannot have my familmy be treatened like that!

As this were PM I will not reveal them, but this is sad

Love to you all

Martin

So, as I said, by thinking it over I will continue posting about bg's, bar-life, the beauty of LOs. I will not let ruin this board over some useless contreversy! I would appreciate for the well-being of people here, that every "attack" will be made by PM!

On my side, I think that i "got the picture" what is sensible to some persons, and try to avoid some "subjects" myself

A pitty I have to murder, "wonderful life", he was not a bad person!! A pitty that I have to delet my own creation, but at least he was a bit more popular then my other Nick!

My stupid questions!

This may be a bit late......

In responce to a earlier posting about being afraid to post. All i can say is that i know i have posted some stupid (FAQ) questions since the time i started posting, and as yet i have never recieved a flaming or a put down. So all i can say is thanks to all the long standing Bm's who have replied with helpfull insights.

But saying that, i have also put down some silly or foolish comments my self, through either lack of thought, or the effects of a Saturday night. Then as soon as i realise my error, I self edit the messages i leave or even remove them totally. So i dont offend another person.

I don't think we're so bad

There's another forum that should probably remain nameless, which covers the same topics as this one. I read it but I don't post on it. I've noticed the names of quite a few BMs from here who also visit it.

And it's unbelievable how nasty they are to each other! Talk about vitriol! Flaming matches can go on for page after page. I'm not kidding, there's one that's 18 pages long and nothing but argument and personal slagging all the way through. And if a newbie dares to ask a question that they think is stupid - and they have a very broad range of what they would instantly file under stupid - they are viciously sarcastic.

That's what I like about this one. Generally, it's one of the most friendly and helpful forums you'll find anywhere. Please let's keep it that way!

*hugs&kisses* to any of you who would accept it from a western girl
Hope you'r all happy & healthy out there in the big wide world

Aussie butterfly you never should have any fear about what some BM may say or judge your thread/comments. If they do excuse my language but fcuk them. they are not worth the time or effort to respond to. Everybody should be able to post their opinion without being attacked

im just saying, i think the whole thing is just foolish and we are spending way too much time on it. i met one particular BM who had a problem with Tintin and ,honestly, he was one of the coolest guys ive ever met so i just dont see why everything cannot be resolved. i just want to talk about hot BG's, an travel ideas, and occasional political debate. and above all, i wish i was sitting at MTB making you drink beers much too faster than you usually do!

And Johnny is absolutely right!

But my PM only got bitter after gently asking to stop this ridiculous attitude towards me on the board, and still getting furious, useless attacks!

Anyway Stevem close, or better lock this thread and do what Marks said very well: let's get back to the babes!!

I believe when you are in a room with 100 people or +/-2500 people on this forum, there will allways be some guys who you get along with, and some with whom you do not get along with. That's life and statistics.

About newbie questions, I think every BM has his helpfull days and shitty days, that's life and statistics as well.
