Unhappy Allready 15 years

That I set my foot on Phuket soll!

Incredible, how time flies! It was a different situation then, it was my honeymoon!

But like everywhere things changed a lot!

Patong was full of sand, there was no real road, and of course very few cars! There was a place, where an elephant was kept, an eatery, and he was walking quite some times ont the street, sandroad!

There were allready girliebars, but I didn't visit, you will understand why!

There were of course roads in Phuket, but not everywhere. In Kata there was allready the Club Med, but all around it was....desert! Kata was just a small village you drove through to go to the beach, not much developpement there!

Karon, was more developped, more hotels allready on the beachroad, but I think no girlie-bars!

We stayed, at the dusit Lagona, it was the ONLY hotel at Ban Tao! It felt like paredise! All the personel was dressed traditional style! We had a service, we never had in our live! Only bad thing was, the tin-mines boats were not chased yet, and those boats were almost in front of the hotel, making swimming impossible and making quit some noise even at night.

Beside the hotel was a kinda of moma's kitchen, just on the sand. They had 2 monkeys, Charly and ? They also rented cars! Nice people, they have proberly been chased, for the bigger Laguna!

The island was not crowded at all, but you felt that things started to get developped! Posters from new hotels to be announced everywhere.

Phuket-town was a relatively quiet little town.

Now you can say that 15 years ago Phuket was nicer and it was, but I think....you all would be have bored!

I wonder if others knew Phuket, that long ago....

tintin, you have an excellent memory and a vividly descriptive way of telling a story. maybe you should be a writer, like Camus with humor.

Anyway my scanner is out of work so difficult to post them and not interesting for BM!

Like I said, no visit to girlie bars, except the go-go's in Patpong in Bangkok, where I also did not went alone!!

Time has not only changed Phuket!

Seventeen years ago was my first visit to Phuket and Patong. Patong Merlin was my first hotel there, very nice. I wish that I had taken more photos, but I don't think there was so much to see in Patong. I remember the terrible road to Kamala. The rented motorbike couldn't make it across the hill. The road was very bad and steep. Had to walk with the bike uphill. At Kamala I was alone with two fishermen. Nothing else. Made the tourist trip to the James Bond island.

Angry Depressing!

I watched the pictures! Yeah, we definetely ruined the place!

As I had in memory, patong didn't look like a town these days! But as a small beautiful village! What a shame!

I rmember that road to Kamala, maybe I still got a picture of that!!! But I had a jeep!

Oh man, I remember those days so well!

They were the best - I lived in a perpetual state of 'LUST for LOS'.

I was living in the Middle East at the time, and I was loaded with cash and more holidays than I could handle!

I knew and loved so many ladies and they were (and still are) the loves of my life! (Hey guys - 350-500 baht in the eighties!)

I remember the wonderful dirt track between Patong and Karon.

Then, when they built the 'highway' it was based on a coconut-shell and hemp-sack backbone!

Still - 12 - 14 years later, it's still doing it's job.

If you stayed in Karon back then it was 50-70 b 'over the hill' and Tuk Tuks in Patong were 10 b ANYWHERE!

Sigh
Happy days,
driv.
