taking the piss?
hi all ,ive just been reading scuttlebutts newsletter on "asia bugle", part of it is about the thai men who hang around the toilet in some bars,determined to get a tip out of you ,for using the toilet, this really pisses me off , there was a bar i used to drink at in karon, which had a toilet , but to use it i had to give some guys a small amount of bhat ,each time, this was ok to start with , i didnt mind, but after maybye the sixth visit , that evening ,for no more than a pee, well they were taking the piss by then and winding me up,.i dont know if this is the normal thing or not ?what do you do in this situation?

Hi Andy!
 Actually in most public toilets in Thailand, you will have to pay to enter! Usually about 3-5 baht per visit, and toilet paper is also extra. I don't know how much you payed, but if it's more than let say 10 baht it might be a rip off!  Although I never heard of it or encountered it myself!

hi thai janne,
the trouble is, i drink a lot of beer so i visit the loo lots of times in one evening !i think ill take a bucket with me next time ad wait till its full then empty it down the street drain ,this would save me a small fortune over a one month stay !

in july i was at Q Bar and i met a TG and me and her friends went to an open area thai restaurant that was all thai in bangkok, far from sukhumwit. anyways, i went to go take a piss, and about 3 thai kids were coming up and massaging me and the cool towel. i was freaked out, but the one kid adjusted my back, like a chiropractor. it was unbelievable! i was still freaked out though

you should have turned around and pissed on them marc !give them a communial "golden shower" so to speak ! , then asked them for 5 bht!

another time, i was in suphan buri, about 2 1/2 hrs north of bangkok, where my old gf lived. we went to a thai disco and everytime i went the toilet id have a crowd of thai guys just hanging out, trying to talk to me. they were just being nice kids, but i just thought it was funny that they were all in the toilet talking to me

In Dragon disco the attendants do the same thing they give you a little back rub while you are taking a piss. Somehow they know not to do it to me though.
 The thing that bugs me is who cares if it's 5 baht, do the math, whats' it to you and what's it to them. If a Thai can make a living charging and keeping the bathroom clean, I don't care about the five baht and you shouldn't either. So what you piss 5 times a night? and it costs you a whole 25 baht 62cents usd. So maybe you think your getting taken advantage of and it's just the principle of it, who cares you have other things on your agenda here and it's not the 5 baht charge. Pay it, forget about it, and chase the girls

radio city in patpong BKK also has some one massage your shoulders while you have a pee, and yes it made me miss my aim the first time as well,(good job i was not wearing flip flops eh)

5bht x 5 pisses per night on average =25bht p/n x 33 nights(my next stay) 33x25=825bht for a 33 night holiday piss ,(excluding dumps)--thats equal to a shag almost!

When I know that I will sit in a bar for a longer time I usually give the toilet boy (or women) a larger amount in advance. `īLarger`` means sometimes 50 bath or whatever I have in the pocket in change. For the rest of the evening there is no more hassle. They always remember and you can go whenever and howoften you want. And very often you get special treatment like free paper and soap to wash hands. Worked always good for me.
Hey folks, we spent so much money down there, makes realy no sense to try to be cheap charley at the toilett.

ohhh i seem to have missed the point here gents ,i thought you ment the people who come in rub your shoulders then try to sell you aftershave in the toilets ,not the ones who sit at the entrance, ive no problem with them as you say the loos are clean ,(must be the number of times i have seen the girls use the mens)always makes me smile in soi easy the attendent even rations out the toilet paper

Soi Eric Toilet
I use the toilet located in the picture shop on Soi Eric and controlled by the blind lady. After many 5 baht visits I had run out of change and gave her 100 Baht and refused the change. Suffice to say I was not asked to pay again although I always did. I think it is important to have a good relationship with your bathroom attendant...
