Phuket - ADSL/Phoneline problems

Just to let you know my phoneline have problems at the moment so I am not able to reply to any emails or look at forum, I am sitting at an internet cafe right now. I hope it will be solved soon.

Yes, I heard it was down so I went to internet cafe again when the bars closed and restarted the server. I have no clue why the server is having problems lately.

Anyway, if my own internet connection had been working I should have restarted the server long time ago.

By the way, I was not able to reach phuket-info.com last night. No problems for Phuketwatch.com.

Site of Mai Thai Bar was also up and running. Only Phuket Info was down.

Actually the server also had some problems lately, it could die for no reasons.
The datacenter changed RAM in the server yesterday and I hope we got rid of these unexpected downtimes now.

I sincerly hope that there is no "bad intention" involved here!

By using my IP adress some people tried to break in into my computer!
It gets me very worried, because some people, who have a bit of hacking-knowledge, seem to do whatever they want! Internet is starting to get a really dangerous-place!

If I were you, as you are exposed as a webmaster, to rule out the possibility that someone would do you harm!

I am getting an expert this week, strange things are happening! Of course, your problems could be of a very different origin, but anyway, beware!!!

Hackers are mostly script kiddies, running scripts which search for known vulnerbilities.

I see in my logs for the server I have hundreds of hacker attempts everyday and also computers like yours at home is target for those script kiddies who scan IP adresses on the net.

The best way to stay secure (in my case for the server) is to use the latest versions of the server software, since new releases often contain latest security patches.

Home users should use firewalls and make sure to run windows update regulary to stay up to date.

Denial of service attacks is more difficult to protect against, a couple of hackers can easily take a server down by flooding it in various ways, by controlling few hundred computers or more they have control over. (E.g. normal people's home computers with DSL/Cable connection)
