A speedboat trip to Coral or Raja Island (pref Raja) is a nice day out.. I like snorkeling and had a good day when a bunch of us got together and chartered a speedboat for the day..

One thing I want to do soon that I saw the flyer for is white water rafting... Its up in Pang Nga a way so I guess its a bit of a drive but it looked like a blast.. I may avoid the tour aspect and just blast up on the fireblade.

Exploring the island on a rented scooter / bigger bike is a nice day if your new here.. Going round the southern loop and seeing promtrep cape and stopping for seafood in Rawai (though they have cleared the resturants off a lot now) can be a nice cheap way to spend a day out of the bar.

Lots and lots of other stuff from horse riding (up near laguna) to bungy jumping.. Just have a look in a travel agent / tour company at all the flyers, something must take your fancy loads to do thats good 'clean' fun.

1st of all, have a great time!
but if you check in with her or tell them she will be coming later and give her name and check her in you shouldnt have a problem.
one of my favorite things i did during the day was take a tuk-tuk to the shooting range. its great, you can shoot all kinds of guns, ride on elephants and atvs. the girl i was with didnt shoot but she rode the atv and had fun. also the tuk-tuk stayed and also stopped at all these beutiful scenic sights so we could chill out. the tuk-tuk was 500baht for the day. i think a gooddeal

Yeah but the price of the ammo at Phuket range is rediculous...

Has anyone tried shooting up in Cambodia / Phom Phen ??? machine guns.. Even rocket launchers etc (and its near an airport)... For the twisted I am told that for $200 USD they will tie a cow / buffalo up and you can shoot the rocket launcher at it.. Now thats too far over on the sicko scale for me but I am told that shooting up there is nuts and cheap as hell.

what rhymes with floors ???

Four floors of w.h.o.r.e.s

NOTE :: I am not in favour of applying that word to the wonderful BG's of Asia its just a ryming joke that everyone refers to Orchard towers (where they are a little more 'pro') as...

If you've got a Fireblade, I'd love to get together with you for some riding. I plan to rent something interesting (I have a Buell and a couple of Ducatis here in Canada) at Patong Bike Bike and spend my days exploring the island. Would be ideal if they had a KTM Duke or something similar. Are PBB still the best bet for variety or are there other options? (I haven't been to LOS since 1990, but rented a TZR from them last time I was on the island.

@GT75074, in fact it is only a 'baby blade' as its called in UK... The CBR 400 NC29 version.. Technically they are fireblades but not what you would think of outside Asia as a real blade.. I may be picking a RFV 400 NC40 up from Chang Mai this month as a small upgrade as my mate wants my bike.. 600's for some reason are pretty rare here and 900's carry too much cost of running for what I would get out of them here..

With the roads here being full of crud, Soi Dogs, terrible drivers, patches of sand etc and the (very bad) habit of riding in Shorts and a T 120 MPH is fast enough for me..

Lots of baby blades avail cheapish going up to R1's ZX9R's etc.. A few places better than the beach Rd for big bike rentals..

Some mates of mine who own the Fat Boy Saloon are organising Bike tours of the south that you can book with them and have an organised bike run with bike laid on and stops / guided tours.. They tend to the Classic / Harley side though offering Steed 600's and Harleys for tours.. Not sportbike stuff (though they might if we asked).

I was amazed that i could rent a Yamaha TZ/R when I was in Patong in 1990. I raced a TZ 350 and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Not the ideal bike for the roads, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to ride such a rare (in North America) bike.

The roads sound fine - kinda like home. In West Quebec, where the twisties are, the pavement's all messed-up from the heavy frost we get in the winter and instead of Thai dogs we have deer (which have a nasty habit of bounding out of the woods and smacking into the side of your bike) and moose. Quebec drivers are notoriously bad.

In a perfect would I could bring my Buell XB9S with me, but if possible, I'd like to rent a KTM or Husky Supermoto or a big-bore, 4 stroke dual purpose bike. I tend to avoid the guided tours and just go out and get lost for a day - stopping for food or snorkelling when something good pops up. I'm the kind of rider that will turn around and re-run a good stretch of twisty pavement a couple of times. Would be great to have a riding partner and I'd appreciate any leads you could provide on rentals.

How serious is the helment law? Should I pack mine?

Steve

There are a few africa twins I have seen rentable though no idea at what cost..

As to doing some runs around, sure why not, hit me up and we will have a beer and see where it takes us.. I also tend to shun organised tours in favour of discovering places myself..

Done! I'll PM you as my arrival (December 9th) gets closer and get your coordinates. If Sting is right and PBB have a Buell, it's worth the extra $$ (particularly if it's an XB9S) to ride a bike I'm intimate with.

So, what about the helment law? Should I pack one?

Well you can get one from whoever rents but they wont be great.. Though for the speeds we do out here they are usually suitable..

Sound like I need to get fresh rubber put on the bike.. Front is looking bald as me and the tires on it now are a really hard compound.. Find something a little bit sticky..

I was driving a Husaberg supermoto 650 cc in saturdays for 2,5 ours
here in Sweden !!! What can i say .....great fun !!!

Yes ! there is a helmet law , but you get one when you rent the bike .

Yeah, sticky rubber always helps, I try not too leave home without it. Sounds like I'll have to defer to your advice on rentals when I get there. I'm hitting town around midday on the 9th and my priorities are:

Get bike
Get wet
Get dinner
Get BG

I stopped drinking after my 1990 LOS visit (says something about the trip...), but I'm happy to buy rounds and do my drinking vicariously through you guys..

Jonas - I hven't ridden a Husaberg yet, but I enjoyed some track time on a tricked out Duke last summer. Last ride was last weekend on the Buell.. -1c and too many leaves on the ground to have any serious fun..
