name a style and we can name some places...

Food in Thailand is really one of its specialities.. Some farang stuff can be hard to find and if you are a long termer the odd missed item can become a real treat (quality avacodos anyone ??) but you will be spoilt for choice...

Give The Red Room a visit too, it is not in Patong but make a daytrip out to Surin/Bang Tao beach and then enjoy a dinner at nice up-scale restaurant.

Usually I eat at home but nowadays when Ead is pregnant I often order Thai food to MTB, excellent food from the small soi opposite Soi Seadragon.

My Old Gf Worked At German Restaurant Called Paulaner And Although I Never Ate There I Heard Its Really Good. For Upscale And Close To Patong, Especially With A Girl, You Can Go To Baan Yin Dee, Its A Really Nice Hotel, But The Restaurant Is Outside And They Have Really Good Food And Its A Good Setting

Where you least expect it

I'd have to say that some of the best meals I've had in Thailand were at places I least expected. Sometimes I'd stop for a quick meal at some simple, nonassuming type place and the food would just blow me away. A few times the food was so good I actually felt guilty paying the bill. You'd be surprised what you can get for 75 baht at some places.

Has anyone been to Baan Rim Pa lately? I havent been there for years but it is always busy and lot of cars outside in the evenings and a new ice sculpture everyday as long I can remember. (Went there first time back in 1996)

Also Savoey Seafood is always busy.

I guess they must do something right.

Went to Baan Rim Pa about 3 months ago with a v nice young lady (non BG)..

Impressive location and fair play I asked for a good table when I booked and despite being more than an hour late (women) they had kept a prime table out on the balcony with the view.. Location is superb bt I felt the food only average.. The bill was more than average..

I hear the italian below is very good but not tried it... The italian Resturant attached to the Andaman hill hotel on Nanai makes its own fresh pasta and thier chefs specials are well worth it.. Not expensive but good italian food..

I went to both Ba Rim Pa and Da Maurizio just below Ba Rim Pa on my last trip back in April 04. Have to say Ba Rim Pa was fantastic, thoroughly enjoyed the meal although more pricey than most other thai restuarants, but was worth the money spent .

However Da Maurizio was not bad, but being Italian myself (and i suppose a little bias when it comes to italian food- can't beat a plate of nona's home made pasta), i have had better else where. The location was great, service great, but was not really impressed with the food as i was expecting a little more, but in saying this it was still a rather enjoyable evening . Price wise it was more that what one would normally pay in Patong.

But i think if you were into italian, i tried a little italian restuarant called Casanovas in one of the side streets heading up to the Holiday Inn (can't remember the name of the street). I was totally impressed with the food and the service, some of the best pasta and pizza in patong (in my opinion), and the price was reallg good too!!!!

There's a French restaurant just a few doors up from Soi Seapearl, does top class steaks. Real comfort food! Can't remember its name but it has a bright red awning outside. Also, if you cross Soi Seapearl and the junction of rat u thit road and carry on just a few steps, look out for a place on the left that does fantastic Chinese dim sum. Even better than my Chinese gf makes!

Paddy I been there too, I think. I live in France ,and their speciality is Steak- French Fries and Béarnaise. I love Thai food, but after 2 weeks I wanted a juicy steak!

Well I was dissapointed, the Thai cook couldn't make it, the way it should!

For Thai restaurants, i have a few reasonable places in Karon. Every time (ok, a few exceptions) I tried a "fancy" place, I was very dissapointed!!!
Not only was the food in "mama's kitchen" much better (main course 80 bath), but in some fancy places I was really frawned upon as an old man with a young Thai girl!

Baan Rim Pa, I always wanted to try it, but the stories I heard about this place are so different! To some, this is very original food, to others, dissapointing! The view may be nice, but I go for the food!

Really special, very expensive food I had 2 times. Mom's tree Kitchen in Kata and 15 years ago in the Thai restaurant on the Lagoon in Dusit.

All the rest was touristic, without any special flavour! No, the small restaurants, sometimes even touristic, can be much better. In general i try the ones not too big!

Worse meal in Phuket: the Mexican in front of seapearl!

Btw, if anybody knows a good Mexican, let me know!
