Rant mabout nothing
OK this is what p*ss*s me off in Patong - all the shops on Beach Road and Bangla Road. Its not the shops themselves but the FFFFs (fat-bottomed, frustrated, farang females) who block the pavement whilst window shopping. Normally they will have their husband with them so he has to wait whilst his wife looks at overpriced tat, and because he's not interested he stands a couple of feet away blocking the pavement, even more effectively. Its even worse when they have a buggy with them. Doesn't anyone bring those neat sleak push chairs with them? No, it seems they all bring massive pushchairs that completely block the pavements.
So lets put the shops where they belong - in the shopping malls!

I agree
Nothing ticks me off more than a couple and two kids who stop dead in the middle of the sidewalk to have some sort of family discussion - as if there aren't people trying to walk by. What's wrong with these people?

During Patong Festival they closed bangla road to traffic for 3 days. It was great you could walk on the road and avoid all the suit sellers and ther were no Tuk Tuks clogging everywhere on Bangla Road.
They really should make Bangla for pedestrians only and bring all the bar table and chairs into the centre of Bangla from the bars there.
Probably the Tuk Tuk mafia would bomb the local government if they tried

Last year at Christmas and New year the Bangla Road was also closed in the evening.
All what I can say it was a wonderful felling walk along the Bangla and no tuk tuk ......
I think the best in the peak season is, if the Bangla where always closed for the traffic in the evening.

I've been thinking the same thing.
They should do it the same way they do it in Walking Street, Pattaya. In the daytime it's fair enough, but come 6 o'clock in the afternoon until closingtime; no cars or bikes allowed. Absolutely brilliant
Now bomb the tuk tuk mafia and get some songetaws running instead, thats what I'm saying!

maybe if the tuk tuk's had to do a curcuit you may not feel you get ripped off for a few hundred yards.
maybe it would get rid of some off the road from the over crowded tuk tuk's in patong.

They have recently put a lot of new road markings on Bangla, and it looks quite smart, especially the yellow lines down the middle, but do you need them on a one way street?
Also repainted the parking places that no one sticks to and three zebra crossings!

They have now put in an extra zebra crossing at the top end of Bangla about six feet from the first one.
The first one was too far back, and traffic waiting for the lights to change were moving across crossing.

Maybe they are trying to make it a 2 lanes?
I wonder if the city has an urban planner on staff or some sort of planning commission for city improvements, or do they just sit on their butt and do things as they go along.
I think the Thais take the expression 'carpi diem' too literally.

I cant see the point of the crossings myself, there is a blatant disregard for pedestrians and the general standard of driving and regard for some sort of highway code is just a joke
I was reading the other day that all traffic police are allowed to keep a bounty of 10,000baht per month on traffic fines. Now you know why there all the checkpoints in Patong and elsewhere. Legalised corruption?

Gordy from the forum had his last night yesterday.
He told me he wanted a t-shirt with "Leave me alone" in Thai, he was fed up with the tailors, massage girls and tuk tuks.
So the ideal would be to have something like this in Thai
"Leave me alone
Mai aow krap"

Wow! What a ripoff! My friend Norm who was in Patong last week, said they were stopping people on the road coming into town at 3:00 PM to check for licenses and passports, and no other reason for stopping people. They has to go to the cop shop and pay a 500 Baht fine! It is the old quota system with benefits.

Well it seems I am not the only one....
From Asia Bugle:-
"BUGGIE BLUES
The number of tourists has increased in December. The downside is that the most pavements are now blocked by pram pushing gawkers who get in the way of people trying to go to the pub! I would think that exposing your young two year old children to the performance of Soi Crocodile's transvestites is not a wholesome family experience. The big problem is that although the Government is encouraging family tourism the fact is that most hotels are not equipped with nanny/babysitters service. This is why poor old mum and dad are out pushing their little brats around the nightspots at midnight."

Know what u mean, and then add the tuk tuk and the drivers and it΄s almost impossible to walk on the beach road!

Great news from Phuket Gazette
Reported in Phuket gazette:-
In the latter stages of the meeting, discussion turned to the issue of closing Soi Bangla to traffic at nighttime. V/Gov Winai favored closing the road every evening, but agreed to a suggestion by the Municipality to close the road from 6 pm to 4 am daily on Friday and Saturday evenings on a trial basis starting April 8. It was agreed that if public reaction was positive, the closing would be extended to other days.
Its a start

As parking is absolutely hopeless I would suggest closing the road to 4 wheel traffic and allowing bikes as well as allowing parking on both sides of the road (for bikes)..
This would allow easier bike access.. Keep the road clearer.. Cut the tuk tuks out of the Rd (why it wont happen) and as a side benefit also lower any large scale possible bomb threat worries.

Will never work or rather be allowed to work on a permanent basis. I'm against it.
