More idle gossip and speculation though this does come from a reliable source..

Was having a chat in Tums bar the other day.. Many of the regulars will know Tum as being involved with (owner / manager / ???) of the Muai Thai ring in Patong near the bowling on Sai Nam Yen..

Well Tum was trying not to vent but he claims that the old Shark / Star Wars / Star World / Whatever is being converted into a Maui Thai fight ring.

From what I could gather there are only licences given in one province to have one fight per week night (for real fights that are acredited not demo's like the stuff that used to be near Tiger).. So Phuket town has Tues and Fri, Tums place has Mon and Thurs, leaving this place with a selection of two from Wed / Sat / Sun.

Tum has a lot of connections in that scene and was saying how it would not effect him due to having better fighters and promoter contacts (having pulled the coup to snatch the international fights there instead of Karon due to bad weather.. He was a happy man that day) which I dont disbelieve but then do new arrival tourist farangs know that much about the Muai Thai scene to tell or even care over convienince ??

What really surprised me was that a BIG venue like the old Shark could be made profitable from 2 nights of Maui Thai a week ?? I mean its a barn of a building and when you look at the takings of a 7 night per week disco in drinks v a 2 night per week fight show surely the numbers dont make sense ??

Anyone else heard this rumor and whats your thoughts.

I heard that only the top floor was going to be boxing, and the lower part was going to remain a club.
