BGs fair game?
I recently spent two weeks in LOS (Patong) and I loved it. But a few things bothered me though. One night I was walking home from Bangla Rd when a BG I had talked to earlier insisted on walking me home. She was kind of strange because I made it clear I was in no condition to bom-bom that night, yet she insisted. When we reached the hotel, which was kind of offside, I waited outside with her for a ride. Of course noone came for while so I was just about to ditch her (started to feel the Singha in my stomach move around) when she suddenly grabbed my arm real thight. I asked what was going on and she pointed towards two thaimen coming up the road. She said she was afraid they would "grab her". After that I waited with her until she got her ride. This made me wonder if BGs are fair game for thaimen? Maybe someone who lives there knows this? LOS is a beautiful place, but when you scratch the surface you can find some real nasty stuff there.
Anyway, thanks for a great forum. Too bad I didn't find it before I went to LOS. I'll try to have less depressing posts in the future.

hi tuk tuk , i too have seen a few bad things in los, its best not to get involved if you are a tourist!if the 2 men had started to attack her ,what could you have done about it realistically?nothing, without getting into some serious crap, so its best to keep out of thai affairs, and leave the thais to sort out their own troubles, cheers my friend !

I know that BG's do run risks like this..
I would guess a BG without connections claiming a rape would not recieve much attention (pure guess) and I know that drunk BG's wearing lots of gold get it ripped of a fair bit, a mate had his GF literally dragged of her bike as they snatched her chain.

Hi Tuk-Tuk
There's a lot of sh1t going down in los which is often unseen, I know a bg from pattaya who was too scared to get a taxi back from Bangkok by herself because of the dangers involved - this includes taxi drivers.
The solution was i put her up in a hotel for the night as it's safer by day for lone women, she pointed out to me that some guys will spot a bg's jewellery and what kind of clothes they wear and assess wether or not they are easy pickings for robbery.
Sadly this kind of sh1t happens a lot and rapes/kidnappings are not uncommon either.

Well sorry.. I dont care where you are in the world or what the local custom is but if I see 2 guys attack a lone woman I interfere.
Yes I know the risks of fighting Thais but what are you going to do just watch ??
I am not wired that way and could not look in the mirror any more if I did that.

Not LOS to all
Rape and robbery are fairly common in LOS it is just farangs generally dont see it.
I have a friend who is a senior policeman in a regional town in the central
plains and he shocked me with the number of rape, burglarys and robberies.
A town of 25000 with 5 rapes, 12 burgs and 6 robberies, unheard of in my town in the west in 1 month. (rape victims ages 12,14,17,22,34)
Thai jails are full of nasty b*astards who prey on the weak and vulnerable.
BGs are at the lowest end of the scale in a country which is still conservative outside the farang areas and the big citys.
As seen by most thais as tainted women they run a greater risk of anti social
behaviour from the criminal class.
Would policemen believe their complaints?
If I saw a girl being assaulted by thais yes I would try to help her, maybe to my danger and hope that I could sort out the problems via thai friends later.
Connections are everything in LOS.

Just a short one
A BG told me when she goes to the village she is held in esteem for the wealth she has bought her parents.
But when she goes into town for the disco or a concert she dresses and acts as conservatively as a TG in a country town.
She wont wear her gold, and is not seen drunk, only drunk in the village surrounded by her family.
Strength is by family numbers, village loyalty this is the same in most developing countries I have found.

Totally agree LLOS,but I think it's more a case of instinct, than conscious thought. As another example,I was waiting at an ATM yesterday, when the woman in front of me walked away, she'd left her money in the machine. It didn't even cross my mind to pocket the cash, why I don't know......maybe it's just a case of "do unto others......"?
Cheers,
Bonnetti

Reading some of the replies I can almost hear the theme from Rocky in my head In this case it would've been real stupid of the guys to start a fight because I was right outside the hotel and there was a security-guard in the lobby. Besides, I'm 1.90m tall and weigh about 95kgs so I can take care of myself in most cases. On the other hand, if the guys are experienced thai-boxers the will open big ol' can of whoppass on you nomatter how big you are. What I ment was more of a general attitude from thaimen towards BGs. And as far as seeing a couple of guys jumping a girl, sure as shit I'd have a go at them. Probably get fxxxed up, but what the hell...
