Farang girl scam at Don Muang?

Is this a SCAM?
Friend of mine in transit through BKK 2 nights(soi cowboy) just arrived back in the USA.
He told me as he was getting some money at the ATM at Don Muang that a good looking euro girl (backpacker type) stepped up after him to the ATM
Her card was rejected and she said to him oh no my card is not working and I dont have money to get through departure tax.
My thoughts were a scam.
My friend gave her 500bt.

Anyone else been hit up by this backpacker type euro girl?

i dunno about scam but i have seen it many times.i stood in queue to pay mine and some guy was asking everyone in the queue to help him,he got enoguh thanked everyone and went thru,i think some people just dont realise you have to pay the tax.my mate kev is a sucker for it,he knows he has to pay it yet everytime i leave thailand with him i have to pay for him,he blows all his money on something else in thailand.

Yes R3, I told my newbie friends put 500 in their passport when we get to LOS and leave it there for dep tax.
One of the 4 did not do it , we all of course refused to help him for at least 10 minutes, what else do mates do?

i normally put a 1000 in my passport,the tax and the taxi money as otherwise i would forget that.

I put 3000baht in an envelope with me passports,tickets and all me other detail's and im glad i did because me and my mate where broke going home, He did'nt have a button left so we just had enough for something to eat, 1 last tequilla which steve talked me into which i wish i had not had Next time ill be putting a bit more away because i didnt even have enough left for a drink on the plane or the money for a taxi from dublin airport, All i can say is thank god for me mammy

I thought the 500b was covered when I booked my tickets
Got to Phuket airport to go home with 2050b.I had to pay 2000 to get out (500x4) and was starving hungry.That was one meal on the plane I did enjoy!
