Careful
Just my thoughts on punting in LOS, be very careful as farangs have been setup for the police or the local hooligans.
I have gambled in LOS on dice, cards, and the football.
Dice in the bars ok but dont leave money under the board, leave it in your bin or a neutral one.
Cards at thai apartments learn the rules well.
Cards play for nothing a few times for maybe a week so the rules are obvious to you.
BG won 60000bt on cards one night, thank you MR Sweden and MR New York
for your 20000bt sponsorship each to the winner.
Crazy those blokes must have baht mak mak, they send every month to these 2 BGs and they still ST/LT with whatevers about.
Football the odd expat will direct you.
Always set a time limit when gambling with thais, if they start to lose they will go on for ever. So say 10 games or whatever but stick to that time.

People will do it Steve, so my advice was only to prepare the player not encourage them.
As we know Thais are inveterate gamblers wether on the stock market, legal lottery, the illegal lottery, football and other games of chance.
Also not just imprisonment is a risk but also being blacklisted never to re-enter LOS, which would be a heartbreak.

Gamblers still top crime stats
PHUKET: Gambling topped the latest Provincial Police crime statistics, for the period November 1 to 25, with 172 people arrested for playing illegal games of chance, 29 of them caught buying or selling underground lottery tickets.
Some 73 people were arrested on drug-related charges, with 27 arrests involving ya bah (methamphetamine) and 261 pills seized.
The remaining 46 drug-related arrests were for possession, or possession and sale of an illegal substance, including marijuana and substances used for sniffing.
During the period 38 illegal immigrants were arrested, as were 18 people for prostitution and eight for illegal possession of a firearm.
There were five murders during the period, with a total of three arrests made. There were also five cases of attempted murder, 19 cases of causing bodily harm and one rape, with no related arrests.
Police received 72 complaints of theft, with 36 arrests made

Club Andaman
There is a legal casino just 5 hours from Phuket.
Go to Ranong (bus ticket maybe 200 baht), head to Club Andaman Pier and they have ferries leaving every 30 minutes to a small island outside Ranong that belongs to Burma.
It is a nice resort with casino open 24 hrs/day.

I wrote a small report last year, you can read more at http://www.phuket-info.com/casino.htm
The island belongs to Burma but the owner and staff is Thai and you use Thai bath as currency. I will go there again and stay one night next year when I do one visa run.

If you want casinos, go to the gold coast. LOS doesn't have any.
Why on earth do you want to go to Thailand if you want to play poker ?? Doesn't make sense.

Gambling in LOS? Easy!!
1 Get caught out lying to your girl.[ risking your nuts ]
2 Argue with a tuk tuk driver in front of his mates [ risking your life ]
3 Trying to work out if your girl is being honest with you [ risking your sanity ]
How much more gambling do you want?

Some sites like William Hill and Ladbrokes used to be unavailable, Thai government restrictions etc, is this still the case ?? I can only assume it is. I use TotalBet, BetDirect and Paddy Power when I have a bet and I'm in LOS, even Betfair got "knobbled" after a while !!
Cheers
