road rash
Just currious, has any Bm's crashed thier mopeds, bikes they've rented or were using? As I have done this and paid for the repairs. Not to mention the srcapes and bruises. My collisons were never with another vehicle, only road and bushes. I carry the scares today.I think it must be the asphalt in Thailand creating tatoo like scars that fade but do'nt go away.

Dear lord the amount of drunken bike crashes I have had !!!
Luckily I spent years on Motorcross, and seem to have developed an instictive 'go loose' and 'tuck and roll' falling style that means despite trashing bikes I rarely hurt myself (though I am really trying not to ride the CBR drunk)..
My worst was on one of my early tours.. Was living with a TG and we had fought BADLY (both roaring drunk) and she had stomped off to her mates.. I decided to go and personally deliver another piece of my mind at 4 or 5 am and speed off helmetless and flat out (angry).. As I cut a bend a Thai came round it in a car also loose on the bend.. To be fair I was most out of order and pretty much went head on into the front of him at about 50 KPH.. I remember seeing the car than thinking '****' (I have multiple pins and have smashed my body in so many way in the first world its not funny, nealry lost my Rt leg twice) and as the moment of impact came I kind of jumped up off the scooter...
I didn't quite clear the bars at that speed and must have clipped them with my legs but I clearly remember flying superman like over the roof of this car and starting to spin headfirst down !! Somehow the god that looks after drunken fools was out in force as I bunched up rolled over and bounched down on the rd without any more injury than a minor scrape and later some briuses on my legs as I clipped the bike on the launch..
The bike itself hit so hard it flipped over the bonnet and cleared the wing of the car to land in an expensive heap on the rd..
The rest of the events of that night I am even less proud of (running off in flip flops, behing hunted and caught by police, etc) lets just say that for instant idiot just add alcohol !!

Without doubt the most dangerous are farang tourists, no basic biker training & observation techniques as well as usually being full of beer
The amount of accidents in Phuket is really shocking
Thai style driving is the driver of the vehicle has right of way and never give way unless you are behind the vehicle

Nah, the Patong Tattoo is when you get back on your bike, and the bike parked right next to it has a hot exhaust, still. The way they park those bikes so close its almost unavoidable

Nice spot. I did this mistake a few times when I first stayed here. And look at the legs of the girls, this "tattoo" is really common.
Regarding accidents, my skin healed perfectly after hitting asphalt, and this happened a few times during 5 years.

Everyone gets em.. I have had more than my share.. My maid and her daughter were joking at me one week when I had a nice nasty one.. The very next week the daughter had one.. Instant Karma !!
Actually I have got pretty damn good at not crashing anymore.. Much much more likely to just fall off it as I kick start (why did I drink and drive.. Well I was too drunk to walk) once I am actually in motion I have had only a couple of failures..

Farangs on Mopeds
A I have posted some time ago, watching farangs on mopeds can while away a few minutes in Los. On my last trip to Patong I was walking up the Beach road towards the football field when an English bloke came crusing up behind me on a Dream at about 5 MPh. He was heavily loaded in all senses with two girls on board. Suddenly and for no particularly apparent reason he fell off.. The traffic did not stop but weaved around them as they struggled to pick themselves up. I, (good citizen) rushed to help and the guy said - "no problems, I'm fine" and promptly stepped in front of a lorry and was hit from behind. He ended up on the pavement, again apparently not hurt. The bike was squashed by the lorry.
The Police station was just there and a young officer came out to survey the scene. He waved the lorry on...
Mai pen rai.

I remember the day I had my first one, Jesus it was painful for ages - I have never ridden a bike in shorts EVER since. These days the newer bike had a Phuket tattoo guard...still gets hot though.
As for accidents....luckily I grew out of them

Burning your self on the pipe Ive only done by laying the bike down. Those burns have heeled and no scare, but the road rash scars stay.Never burned my self just sitting at a stop sign or parking.

Ouch!
getting off your moped to the right is a bad idea.Did'nt even think about a red hot exhaust, took me a couple of seconds, whats that weird sensation on my leg, arrrgh feck.
went straight to the fridge in my apartment and pulled out a can of schweppes(u know, the green one) put me leg up and rested the freezing cold can on it,what a relief, decided to play some cards for a while, took my mind off it a bit.My teelak(at the time)got me some good cream from the pharmacy, worked wonders, she was a good girl, helped me through the suffering if u know what i mean
DO WHAT U WANT 2 DO,AFTER ALL,IT IS UP 2 U!
