This place really does suck you in...
Hi Guys (& Gals)
I have been reading this forum for over a year now and I would like to thanks all of you for providing some great stories and advice! This is a great site - keep up the good work Nicke and co!!
Just got back from my 4th trip to LOS (which included hiring a car from Bangkok and driving to Phuket - now that was some roadtrip!!). Now I am back in the UK suffering the invitable post-LOS blues...you all know how it goes (except for you lucky ones staying there!!)
Anyway, took one of mates along who has never been before, in fact, he has never really been out of UK-ville style holidays - he was destined to get married August just gone, had a life planned out, 2.4 children and the rest. the only places he really went on holiday to wer Tenerife, Majorca, Florida etc. Now after his relationship broke up you can imagine he was not best pleased.
It took me about a month to talk him into coming - everytime I have returned from LOS before I have told him about it but he never seemed interested (in another world when you are with someone I guess) - eventually got to come along and the more he thought of it the more he was looking forward to it.
Basically to cut a long story short, now we are back he is a totally changed man - LOS sucked him in and chucked him out with a totally new perspective on life - and yes he is arranging his next trip there! (to see me as I hope to be out there more long term).
My question is, has anyone else had similar experience with any of their close friends - it is absolutely amazing how you can see someone change so much just after visiting this great place. (and were we the same 1st time around? It took me the 2nd trip to suddenly realise!!)

Same thing happened on my second trip. I took two of my mates, one of which was really nervous and hesitant about Thailand and the whole BG scene. Took a lot of persuading, but once there both loved it and found the place life changing. I'm back in Jan. and taking a new victim along for the ride!

Yep - it's a funny old world.
What I have also noticed is that my preference towards women has moved right off the farang women (PAH!! - nice one SafeAs) and focused on Thai women (even in the UK I keep a look out, bypassing the other women who I just don't find as attractive now).
It's like when you decide you want something, for example, a new car, say a VW Golf - you suddenly start seeing loads of VW golfs on the road on your way to work - when before you didn't notice them - well exactly the same for Thai women - I also went to the Thai festival in London a few months back - didn't know where to look!!!!

This last trip I took two friends. It sucked my one firend in and would not let go.
The other had a GL back home in the UK so was that interested.

Flew into Phuket 1st time, 1-1-02. Way burned out from long flight, as I looked out the windows of the taxi headed to Patong, what I saw made me feel depressed. In the countryside, tiny little concrete houses, not much more than huts, then funky little crossroad towns, kinda dirty-looking. The whole place reminded me of Mexico and I thought, "Shit, I flew 25 hours to get here, when I coulda took a comfortable train ride in a sleeper car to Mexico for practically nothing."
Found a hotel at about 7:00 P.M. Crashed out for 5 or 6 hours. Woke up, showered and hit the streets at about 1:30 AM, being careful to not get lost.
The hotel was on Sainamyen, just off Rat-U-Thit, so in 5 minutes I reached the corner of Bangla and Rat-U-Thit. Crossed the street to the corner where the Shark Club was. Met a FL. My life has never been the same since that moment!
