International drivers licence?

This is my FIRST post aw another first out of the way. My wife (yes she's Thai) and I will be spending five weeks in Phuket. We stay out in Kata Noi quiet but just right for a married man.

I rented a motorbike from Gasserweb motorbike rentals in Patong and they suggest I have a international drivers licence. What do you all think? Get one or blow it off. And if you think I should get one where would I get it.

I have been to Phuket many times and have never been ask for one yet. I have been ticketed a few times for no helmet but they never said anything about a licence.

The rules have changed and having a license with you is an essential item now (though you can often argue your way out with your home country licence)..

You get an international in your home country.. In the UK you can get them from the RAC and other places.. usually just a couple of quid for a 1 year..
