I'm supposed to be flying out on the 28th from Heathrow, 2 nights in BKK and then arrive Phuket lunchtime New Year's Eve; but I don't think it'll be sensible for anyone to go to Phuket for a few weeks at least, looking at the state of the devastation, and we might not be allowed to anyway. I need to decide tomorrow whether I cancel completely or fly to BKK and play it by ear. I want to get to Patong because I want to make sure a girl I know there is OK; she managed to phone me this afternoon but she sounded absolutely terrified.

I'm going to call my hotel (Stoney Monday) tomorrow or Tuesday AM and get their take on it, and see if anything coherent comes out the Thai gov/British Foreign Office about travel there, as well as keeping an eye on this board as there seem to be people on the ground posting here.

Same for me. I should arrive in 3 weeks but I'll probably revise my plans. I really doubt that they'll be able to rebuild and re-open everything in a so short period. Really sad news

I think, good hotels need about 4 days for repair, since they are well built structures. Rooms are allways in the upper floors, therefore they stayed intact. Maybe reception area has to be repaired, cooking and dinner area. As you remember there was a lot of water end of october, and when I arrived on 4 November, nothing was to be seen any more. Bars will open tomorrow, after they were shopping more beer at Lotus.
