How can i help?

I realy wanna go back and help. I was there with my family untill the night after the disaster, i wanned to make sure that my family got home ok. But it felt so wrong to just leave, I wanna go back and help but i cant afford a new plane ticket. This is realy bothering me! I've only been in Thailand for 3 weeks but i seriously fell in love with the country and the people in it, and now it feels like i chickened out.

If anyone got any idea's how i could apply for some sort of aid team or whatever, please give me a hint.

As you, I would like to be there and give any help I can, but some kind words can help too. I have talked to some Thai people with hopeful words, and I am sure it has been really appreciated as many feel lost now.
I think that expats working in Phuket also appreciate the so many posts on this forum. Just words and thoughts, I know, but at least a little something.

Make a donation to the Red Cross fund set up for this disaster.

They estimate that it will take around 44 billion dollars so every little helps

Sure BB, you are right. a glass of water is nothing, but if everybody brings a glass of water, it can become an ocean.

There are many ways to give some financial help in every country already (Red Cross, Unicef, medecins sans Frontières ... so many more) ... each bath needed.

You are so right. In my country the red Cross is sending the first airplane to Thailand tomorrow with 30.000 cans of water, food and equipment. Everyone should give a financial contributionto the red cross or similar organization in his/her country. It really helps.

Surely turning up and spending your money is the best thing to do? The last thing they need is for us to abandon them as a destination so I would have thought that just being there is a help?

I heard the Red Cross appeals today as well though, and the BBC calling it 'the worst natural disaster ever', must be a hell of a mess.

For sure Steve. As I have already read here, to cancel holidays in Thailand would be a second tragedy for many Thais and expats. I would cancel my next trip in February for nothing... I have also sentimental reasons to go.

But urgent financial help is now needed. Food, water, clothes, medecine ... they cannot wait till we go. So both solutions seem welcome.

Me too, I hope to be there late January but will subscribe to whichever of the aid agencies make most sense in the next few days.

The numbers just keep going up, sky news now have it at 60,000 dead and rising.

me too

Hi guys

If there's not going to be a cholera epidemy or so (cross my fingers) i will turn
up in Phuket as well in March.

According to me a financial donation is the best way to help those people:
I will donate 25 Euro tomorrow to the redcross over here in Belgium (which is maybe not that much but at least something)

Regards

I was just in Phuket for three weeks in November and just looking at the photos posted by Nicke on the Web, just made me want to cry. (Last time I think I cried was when they wouldn't authorize my Visa at the Eden Club). Seriously, not the way I wanted to remember Soi Eric,...under water. Sadder to see the Webcam from MT bar stuck on the same photo night after night. I just finished booking flights back to Phuket for Jan 28 staying at the V**H****. The travel agent thinks I am f***ing crazy but he also said he hasn't been to Thailand so I'll excuse his ignorance. I think if all the tourists wait until all is bck to normal it is going to be too late for a lot of businesses so I say screw it. I don't mind roughing it a bit if it will help out a little bit. Phuket gave me a lot and now it's payback time.

Good call, I feel exactly the same. Phuket has been good for me too, if my being there helps the businesses survive and rebuild then I will be there asap. See you all in a few weeks.

Any info on hotels now would be very helpful

I'm on my way!

I had a ticket booked to Phuket mid january, but manged to change it today.
that means I'm coming to Phuket sunday 3. january to help with whatever I can!
And for other Norwegians that wants to help, here's what to do:

Use your telephone and call 820 43000 Or in Norwegian; Ta telefonen og ring 820 43000 !!!!!

Then you automaticly give 100,- NOK to the Red Cross who is wery much capable to transfer the money to where it is most needed! (we still have to remember all the other victims in this catastrofy)

Anyway, if anyone need some help, please let me know. I will do whatever I can for "my country" !

And for you Nicke, long time no see, but even if I have been quiet on the forum, it doesn't mean I havent been active ;-)

See you in a few days!

Thaiger.....

I also desperately wish I could go back and help out, especially knowing that I have a blood type that they really need. Feeling very helpless here in the UK but at least giving something to Red Cross etc will help a little bit, but I really wish I could be there doing something more positive.
