U2 - Gonzo & U2 Annex
Hello all
does anyone know the status of the above bars on Bangla rd and are all the staff ok?
I read another post about the events from the Aussie Bar, and that makes it sound like these three bars/staff will have been heavily hit.
any information appreciated.
thank you

I also worry about the girls working at Gonzo & U2/annex. Can anyone inform us on their status? Thanks.
Last night, TV broadcasted pictures of the Irish bar on the beach road. It seems that the bar area on that soi was is toatally destroyed.
And so far, I was not able to contact Jacky from Phuket Boss tailor on KSR road, near Irish bar. Any update is welcome.
Thanks,
Bobby

I'm not too much worried about the Bars and their personel: pure deduction, not because I am heartless. I allready phoned some girlfriends and they are OK. I also visits the Gonzo bar when in Phuket, but:
-Which bars are open at the time of the tsunami in the morning (between 8 and 10)?
-Where are the staff and BG's at that moment? If the BG is not with a customer in his room (or very seldom on the beach, you get black) they are in their room or around there.
-Not so many of the Thai people stay in rooms close to the beach, it is too expensive: they stay mostly on 3rd road, live there, eat there and yekyek there.
So I expect most of them (if not all) will be safe.
I think the Thais working in shops, hotels, restaurants and other businesses open at that time and situated close to the Beach Road are harder hit.

I know for fact that the U2 Bar opens at 9am, everyday, with three members of staff.
Not sure what time Gonzo & the Annex Bars open, but they also are open in the daytime. Most likely the same 9am start.
The staff that run the bars in the daytime are exactly that, Day Workers. so your deductions don't stand up I'm affraid.
So, my previous request for any updated info stands. If anyone wlked Bangla after the wave hit perhaps they can recall the state of these bars and pass me the info.
thank you

One BG from the u2 ,Tooto, phoned me on the day it happened via her cell phone to U.K and she said she thinks that most of the Bg's from the u2 are ok .She didn't mention any specific names though. She said that nearly the whole of Bangla road is totally devastated beyond any recognition and thinks that most of the bgs and including her self R going home to there parents untill they can find other jobs in the places in the north that were'nt efected.
She has since contacted me today(29th dec) and was very, very upset at wat she saw in the afftermath of that terrible day,the likes of which me being safe in the uk can only begin to imagine. If i get any more info about the rest of the staff/bgs i'll let people know.

Thank you all very much for the information. So many good friends out there, feel pretty helpless right now, but going out in January (15th) to see them and will try to help in any way I possibly can.
I also heard that many of the girls have gone back home.
If anyone has pictures of U2 Bar after the wave please post it.
thank you

I walked past many times but I think it was just "closed", I will take a closer look today. Many of the bars on main road was destroyed and are already under reconstruction and may be open very soon.
Ozskin may know more, he was at Bangla when the waves come.

Digidaz,
Sorry if I offended you. Just telling what I think, maybe I was wrong. I agree there are a few bars open in the morning, less than before when you could drink longer at night. Still wondering why when I go play golf in the morning and pass them. Sometimes you see a farang sitting there. I allways wonder if he starts drinking early or stops late.
I still think most of the people working there are OK. Hope your friends are also.
By the way, I saw an newsitem on Belgian TV yesterday evening where they said that Patong was black for 100 meters close to the beach...and then life started again. The lights were up in Soi Bangla again (the colored ones which span the street and read welcome to Patong), they showed the bars under Tiger disco and interviewed a BG, and of course they had to show the katoeys (the most beautifull "ladies" I've seen in that clip) in that bar in Soi Tiger.
Greetings

Once again thank you all very much for this.
I have managed to contact one of the staff at U2 who has confirmed that the staff are all ok. They ran fast she said.
The state of the U2 is not good, she said, and she doesn't think it will reopen soon.
She believes Gonzo & Annex are not so bad.
OZSKIN. If you do walk past please drop a note on here again.
CAPTAIN. Not offended, just knew the staff opened the shutters at 9am.
Much respect to all.
Daz
