Mad tourist arrive in Phuket
he he he ... I guess they would be BM's. I would like to be one of them, and give a hand where it is needed.
"Mad" tourists arrive in Phuket
PHUKET: -- A trickle of determined tourists have jetted into the devastated Thai resort island of Phuket, arriving in almost-empty planes to the bewilderment of hundreds of survivors fleeing the tsunami disaster area.
"Our friends think we're mad," said Englishman Paul ****, an engineer from Manchester, as he sipped what looked like a gin and tonic on a short, lonely flight from the Malaysian capital on Wednesday.
"The only risk we face I think is if there's another quake...," he said, adding that he and his two companions were booked into a beach-front hotel that escaped serious harm. Hotel staff had assured them they would have a "wonderful holiday".
"We love the place that much and we thought we would take the risk," he said.

Now I'm really kicking myself. After agonising over it, I decided not to go to Phuket (as due to get there yesterday). I'm in BKK now, heading to Pattaya on Sunday. I feel like I've let the side down. Sorry, you guys.
Stevem, worst news for you is, I'd bought a couple of jars of Vegemite for you! Oh well, I suppose they'll keep till next time.
Take care, all. Thinking of you.

We will be there
On my last trip we did the touristy tour of Phi Phi and thereabouts. There was a village (cant remember the name) effectivly floating in the sea. Lots of kids I remember. One in particular, a right little charmbucket, about 10 years old and a smile that could melt granite. Followed us around like a long lost son and telling my girlfriend how beautiful she was. We ended up spending a small fortune at his parents stall of course. He spent the rest of the day with us, my girlfriend translating all his compliments that would have earned him a broken jaw had he been 10 years older. Then again, with that smile he would have charmed even me.
He came with us to the jetty to say goodbye. He didnt have to.
We had hoped to see him again in April but it seems the village is gone. Just one kid I know but the spirit of that country seemed to just flow out of him.
The trip isnt cancelled though my gf is concerned about a reoccurance. Hopefully the aid agencies can do their work before infection becomes a problem. As everyone says : They need all the help they can get.
Good luck to all of you down there and helping to clean up. Do all you can to prevent anything that might touch that amazing spirit the Thai people have.

That maybe can happen but I don`t think so. It`s after the holidays and I think most of the foreigners are back at work then by that time.

Help to those who needed
Everyone, knows this is a disaster...
Everyone, knows thai people are not very rich...
Everyone, knows that those people need help
THEY NEED HELP RIGHT NOW!!!
in holland they opened a bank account to send money to help all the people who need it so badly.
At this time they already got 4 million euro.
Tonight there is a television show, made by the television channels to get monney, i bet in youre country's there is also a bank account where u can send ur money to..
Please do so, and let all the thai people and all the others from other countrys see that also FARANG'S got a heart.
I allready send the money, please follow me, by giving a gift...
They need it so badly..

NOTE also that Indonesia and Sri Lanka have suffered hundreds of times worse than Thailand and that they need the help more desperately. Pray that the money goes to the people who need it the most. There are other places other than Thailand involved in this catastrophe.
As for hotel availability I have been readin gon thai travel forum that many people have tranferred over to the east side of thailand (samui, pattaya, chang) and that the hotels there are nearing full occupancy and hoteliers there expect things to be like that for some time until phukets standing up strong again (sure will be very quick).
