Question Need a bit of help to decide

Ok, Ill be coming to patong on the 1st of april until the 17th/18th and ill be staying in either the c&n hotel or the stoney monday, Still have not made my mind up yet but ill probably stay in the stoney monday for the first few days and then decide whether its better than c&n.

Right and then ill be heading back to bkk for 2nights where ill be staying in the majestic hotel, Now from here I dont know where to stay because ill be going to the full moon party on the 23rd to koh phangan,So I need a bit of advice where would be the best place to visit in between the 20th/24th, After that ill be staying in pattaya for a week in the sandy springs hotel and then maybe back to bkk for the last night.

So I was thinking of staying in koh samui for a few days but dont know where the best place to stay there is? Which part do you think is better, Chaweng or lamai? Not really worried about picking up BGs there but it would be nice to have the choice, Ill be going there to relax but I would like to be around a few good bars just in case and I would like to know if there's any nice places to see there like temples/Waterfalls etc because this time ill have to get a few nice pics of things other than the nightlife and BGs so my mammy does'nt think im a complete dirtbird

Another thing is Koh phangan worth spending an extra night at and if so where would be a good hotel to stay at, I would like it to be guest friendly with air con between the 1000-1800bt price range and im looking for the same type of accom on samui aswell, Thanks in advance for any advice you can give

You can give Koh Chang a try. An island near Trat, second to Phuket in size, but still in development.

Thanks for the links beuk

I have found some interesting places to see there, Has anyone used this tour guide http//www.samui.org/tours/safari.html If any BMs have used this service I would like to know what you thought.

Also even though them sites are a great help I would really like to know about what BMs that have been there think is a good place to stay that they would recommend, Chaweng or lamai? And if they know any hotels that are guest friendly with air com that are around the nitelife scene? And also if they think that its worth staying an extra night in Koh phangan and if they know any accom that they would recommend?

Try it mate, you never know you might like it? I am getting old after all!!

Thanks Safeas, Yeah I am leaning towards chaweng after reading previous threads on samui, I know it does not have the nitelife of patong/pattaya but thats the whole point of going just to see something a bit different while where in los which still has a bit of a nitelife if we get bored of relaxing, Where only going to be there 4days max.

Can anyone recommend any hotels in chaweng and koh phangan to stay at which they have had good experience of in the 1000/1800bt range with air com and guest freindly?

Ally i think you've got it spot on ,5 days in samui for me was enough, dont get me wrong,i liked the place, good for a change of scenery.Myself, Bigmac and Safeas stayed in chaweng in a place called lagoon bay,i would defentely recomend it and its in your price range.you have a choice of a hotel room or a bungalow(nice and clean, and bungalows in a tropical garden, watch out for the plants).we paid around 1000b in november i think, its more to the south of the beach road, but only 20b on a songtheaw to the action or a stroll along the beach(beach front resort, but beach front bungalows were under constuction).defintely worth a look mate.(guest friendly also!)
But if you wanna talk about chilling out, thats another story, and it goes by the name of koh Phangan(your heading the right way, except i would'nt call Haad Rin mixed with the full moon party chilling out),hope you have a goodone, you'll love the place!
p.s if your interested in north west koh phangan i could talk all day,but as i said thats another story.

Thanks Wylos, Chilling out to us is a bit different than most people would call it, I would say im looking for something less hectic after patong/bkk and somewhere we can recharge the batteries a bit before we get to pattaya, Sometimes I do like to chill but I also get pissed off just sitting around very quickly, But I would like to hear about koh phangan if you have the time as I might be interested in spending an extra day there if it was worth seeing other than the full moon party that is.

Haad Son

if your only staying in koh phanghan for 2 nights max, your probably better of staying haad rin or near, thats were the FMP is and a majority of the nightlife, theres defintely much more of koh phanghan i can see and that includes haad rin,but what i do know is that i had a excellent time in a place called Haad son(resort was called haad son also, only 2 resorts on the bay, nice private beach).yeah right ,i hardly done F.A up there, but chilled on my raised bungalow, lying on my hamock sipping samsong(except for a few runs to 7/11 in the geep, as he called it to pick up the bare neciesities and some chocolate milk, which was 10-15 minutes to the nearest village).some very nice sights up that way,not a care in the world type feeling.
but i will say, i stayed there for the duration of my trip and it was no trouble getting there and back to the FMP,there is arranged songtaew trips for the 45 minute hike.
excellent restaurant and bar,all on raised decking over looking the bay.
Im the same as you ,like the aspect of relaxing seeing different things, and knowing your gonna be back amongst a totally different scene back in the likes of pattaya, patong ,bkk...
you say your around april/ may time ,maybe hitting LOS around that time myself, have to hook up for a beer or two, show these old' uns how its done,no offence anyone

Unfortunatly I will be heading home the 2nd may, So hopefully I will catch up with you in april and have a keg or two

Haad son sounds great like a real paridise place, But I think only for a day or two and then I would need to go back to civilisation quick, But only problem with it for this trip is I dont have a driving licence so it might be a bit secluded without a jeep. But I will definatly have a look on a future trip because it sounds like a real cool place, Do you know any good hotels around haad rin to stay at? By the way thanks again and hopefully you will make it for april and ill gladly get the first ones in

My impression on Koh Samui

Ally

I stayed two times in Chaweng, each time for approx one week with a girl from Phuket. Last time was in may 2003. I stayed in Chaweng resort.
http://www.r24.org/phuket-info.com/s...esort/details/

I was there with friends who were all accompanied with TG's. We booked the hotel at the airport and got quite good prices +/- 1200 per night with breakfast (airco rooms with tele, minibar etc.). I must say on the website (see link above) they announce more expensive prices. Probably we got a discount because it was may and we rented 4 bungalows...

The hotel is very nice, straigth on the beach (but that's common at Koh Samui), two swimmingpools and nice hotel staff. It was walking distance from Chaweng center and the Green Mango and not to far from the reggae pub as well.

Another hotel which is even closer to the center is Chaweng center hotel - http://r24.org/phuket-info.com/samui...gcenter/,which looked very new and ultra clean to me (at least from the outside). Have not stayed there but it's above brandnew shops and prices look very good.

I must say ... I do not think they have beach bungalows. I think the charm of Koh Samui are the beachbungalows. I liked it a lot to wake up and walk 20 meters and you are on the beach + nice to sit outside on your bungalow terrace during the early evening with some beers.

Do noth really know if the hotels are girlfriendly because the same girls stayed with us the whole time.

Nice things to do: rent a motorbike and visit Big Buddha, Grandfather and grandmother rock. I also visited a waterfall but I was not to impressed. Anyway be carefull with the motorbike because there are some killer curbs and the roads are not that good everywhere.

thats defintely a plus, you dont see that much in patong(do u ?).i enjoy that myself, nice to sit on the viranda of your own bungalow, either with a few mates or jus chilling on your own,or make your own party!

Thanks Steven & Wylos, I have decided on the Samui Lagoon Bay. Is this the same one you stayed at wylos?.

Another thing I have been checking out koh phangon and because the full moon party is on, You have to stay there for a min of 3days in some of the further away hotels and at least 7days in the surrounding hotels. But I only want to stay there a max of 1or2 days, So do any BMs know of any hotels where this may be possible at this time,(This is to any BMs that has been there during a FMP) And if not if we go to the FMP without booking a room what can we expect there? Would we be stranded there until the next day? Or do they run regular trips back to sumui during the night? Another thing would be is it worth going without having a room booked?

Thanks again boys I just want to have everything sorted before I go, Because I dont want to have anything to worry about when im there because ill have my mind on other things hopefully

yeah man thats the same place i stayed,i think you'll like it there, got all the requirements u need, air con,fridge,t.v..etc
if u like a nice bar, live music... let me know, i got a mate who runs a excellent bar in chaweng.
and about koh phangan, just get over there,i know what your saying, nice to have things sorted, but you'll be able to jump in a songtaew from the port, they'll take you around until u find one u like and they wont turn away 2 nights buisness.have a look on that website i gave u,they got all the area's you need on there, pick one that takes your fancy(maybe write a list of the ones you like, and u can check them out on road).probably get a much better price face to face.

Yeah thats what ill do, The only thing is ill have all my luggage with me but we will be ok, We'll sort something out.

One last thing is BkkAirways the only airline that flys there because I was looking at airasia/thaiair and they dont seem to have flights from bkk to samui, And I checked there website and it works out about 7000bt each return is that the norm.
