No very small as the sea shelf is long and shallow...
Some 4fter's or so off Kalim reef was about it... Samui or gulf places even less I would imagine.

In low season 'moonseason) just be careful if you swim as understows can be strong.

I remember 1 meter high waves in Laem Sing last May, not so high but it was dangerous to swim.
Some beaches are quietr than others, so don't forget to check the flags.

The problem are the sand-rips running parallel to the beach below surface. When you want to go into or out of the water for swimming, you walk allways up and down. Therefore I entered and left the water every time on the south end of the bay, where it was more easy. When you have more then two meters of water below your body, swimming with the waves makes fun.

Sorry but anyone that calls the minor currents on Phuket 'riptides' has never been a surfer or a waterbaby !!
I am well out of my physical prime but 90% of the 'rip' deaths on Phuket have loads more to do with unfit half drunk people being in minor waves.. Compare a 'rip' on Phuket with trying to stay above water on some N Atlantic 30ft wave like Bundoran (beaking over granite reef) or an Indo wave (lets just use a shallow / common one like Ulawatu) where tonnes of water get thrown over reefs per minute (not hourly or daily).. The sea can throw some strong shit at you, but to say that Phukets rips are bad is like saying that kindergarden is scary..
Apologies to anyone in advance if you have lost loved ones in the Andaman but it really is not a volient sea (recent events excepted)..

allright, the reason im curious is simply:
Im thinking about going to Thailand in summer, despite the extremely hot weather. Im a water person, i couldnt live without taking a swim while im on the beach and i find the extreme weather fascinating, the heavy rain and the thunderstorms etc, all that is exciting. Now i never realy experienced any tropical storms or rains etc but something makes me just wanna see it, you know with my own eyes. Now you all probably think im crazy, and i might be a bit crazy but this kind of things fascinates me and i cant help it

on my first trip in September 2003 I was able to bodysurf (without fins) some 2 footers, but that is as big as I have ever seen there...nothing like 10 foot storm waves here in Redondo!

Monsoon season isnt even that bad you still get alot of sunshine and when it rains it really rains but it didnt last for long when I was there and it would dry up pretty quick. Dont expect fascinating weather conditions because its not

Not crazy at all... I love a good thunderstorm (and yes we get great electrical ones sometimes).. The whole tension and build up of pressure in front of one kinda amps me up too...

Iremark: I guess that depends on where you live And what you've experienced before. We dont have alot of extreme weather in Sweden except some occasional snowstorms, which i hate hehe, tooo cold.
