I found many reports from hotels in Phuket on
http://www.sawadee.com/tsunami/statements.htm
A priority to avoid an economical disaster for Thai people is not to cancel reservations. Phuket, Thai and expat workers, need tourists to survive.
Today, many areas get back and are ready to welcome tourists. What we see on television is not a reflect of the reality today. If everybody want to wait 3-6 months before going back to Phuket, the situation there will be worst than today, I think.
One of the reports on this site says :
Please take note that Ao Nang Beach in Krabi is "BACK TO NORMAL". You can see that by watching the pictures to be found under
www.aonang.de.
The KRABI SEAVIEW RESORT is presently still fully booked, but we face lots of cancellations in January and February. Beside of the fact that we are fully operational, please try to convince your clients/friends/relatives/colleagues that then can only help to overcome this disaster BY NOT CANCELLING THEIR RESERVATION. Everybody here, SPECIALLY THAI PEOPLE, need to keep their job and need to earn money to survive! One more reason which should convince people to not cancel their holidays here in Ao Nang/Krabi.
Our Dive Center AO NANG DIVERS will start offering diving again from 02.01.2005.
We are already going out to regions which are badly hurt like Khao Lak and Phuket, bring them clothes, shoes, medicine, food, water and money (we collected already more than Baht 350000) to help. But we cannot help if we loose all our reservations...
Thank you for considering these words...
Best regards from sunny and hot Ao Nang in Krabi and happy new year to all of you!

No more comment needed, no?
Except for the girls maybe ... Quite simple : if there are no tourists, BG's will not be able to earn money and will leave soon or late
