Bigry,

As I posted on the Flang Bufflos thread, I have been attempting to learn for about three months. Since I don't live near any Thai's that I have found, its been very difficult to have direct conversations. Theres a great web page for learning Thai at:
www.learningthai.com if your serious about learning it you can spend hours on this site. There a whole section on dating.

Thumbs up Poot tai dai mai?

I have been learning thai for about 7 mont now....
We (my friend and i) meet a guy in a bar in Norway, and he told us about this thai guy that have private lessons...
And now this thay guy is our private teacher. He works as an translater here in Norway, so he is very good as a teacher.
He buy school books for us in thai and prepare the lessons good every time. (2 hours every week). He also give us homeworks for next lesson.
In the last two month we have been working with the thai alphabet...(konsonants and wovels).
He say that the best way to make the right sound of the word is to learn the alphabet first. Its important to know about the "mai eek" "mai too" "mai tree".........etc..
That can make the total different meaning of the same word.
For u Norwegian guys out there....if u want to learn thai the right way... and not only from the BG`s... (sleeping dictionary), then tell me.... iwil give u the number to my thai teacher.
He lives in Oslo, så if u live up noth i think it wil be some difficulties.

12 days and counting......

Pom jai dee lae lor tisot...

Hi all,

I have been learning to read and write Thai. There is about 70 different symbols to learn, but they are not actually as difficult as you might think.
If a bar girl tells me her name, I can usually write it in Thai , some correct, some very close.
If a Thai person writes a word or sentence, then I can read it back to them, BUT i normally havent got a clue as to what it means.

I wanted to be able to read and write first, and now I am about to start on the conversation, because at the moment my conversation skills are shit. Simple things I understand, but normally my face looks like this -

Its great to watch the bar girls faces when you take a pen and paper and write their names or a few words. You see them whisper to each other 'We had better watch out for this bastard!'. but then they realise I dont understand what they are saying, and they probably call me 'pom pooey falang' and other nice things

I think in 1 more year I will be able to talk and especially listen to what they are saying. My goal is to walk into a bar as if it is my first time in Thailand, listen to what the girls are saying (it will probably be bad!) and then finish my drink, say a couple of sentences to them in Thai, and walk out.

Dirty Mike

Cool

Jaws et al,

I am quite impressed that some in this assorted of group shag monsters have got a little more depth than I originally thought. Thai's are such great people the effort is to learn a little of the langue is really worth it. I am planning on becoming completely fluent - as time permits.

The best thing about this site is that you click on the words of sentences and you hear the pronunciation. I have spent literally hours just exploring the site. I have even bought music and video CDs off the site to help learn the language. There is even an area where people take Thai songs and translate them to English. The section on Thai Lovers (dating can be especially helpful)

www.learningthai.com

Lar jer gon,

K

Been to thailand twice. Going again for 2 months in summer. I am learning Mandarin at the moment but after that i will learn fluent thai, hopefully. I can only speak a little bit of thai at the moment.

I am still tring to figure this message board system out. I havn't figured how to send you a private message so I will post the reply. I work in Speke about 3 miles from you. I have located a Thai teacher but I have to drive 35 miles each way to Wales to get a lesson. I am working on a Thi girl at the "Chille Banna" resturant in Wilmslow to help me with some Thai.

I live in Frodsham.

I have been to Thailand twice and just got back about a week ago. If you want to get together for a pint and share some stories. I am in Speke right now and about to leave work for home.
