It is now pretty much the standard wherever you go.
This is from the UK Foreign Office website ( www.fco.gov.uk)...
Passports & Visas
Passport Validity
If you wish to travel abroad you must hold a full ten-year passport, even for a day trip. Apply in good time to the UK Passport Office.
Ensure your passport is valid for the duration of your trip. Some countries have an immigration requirement for a passport to remain valid for a minimum period (usually at least six months) beyond the date of entry to the country.
This is a requirement of the country concerned, not the UK Passport Office. Any questions should be addressed to their Consulate or Embassy.
However, this is taken from www.thailand.com
To apply for a visa, and to check your visa status before travel, contact the Thai Embassy or Consulate in your own country (see list of Thai Embassies & Consulates abroad). A passport valid for at least three months from your entry date is required for entry into the country. Once a visa is issued at your country of origin it must be used within 90 days.
As you can see it says 3 months, but maybe this is out of date, it would be worth checking, as it might save you a lot of aggro.
Cheers
Diz

Yeah im in Ireland too and was told that, who do you normally book flights with?
You dont have to pay 75 euro you can get a 5 year one, 75 euro will get you a 10 year one with post office express meaning you'll get it back within 10 days.

Yeah but You pay about 50 euro for 5yrs, So you get a better deal if you buy the 10yrs one(And if you dont have an extra 25euro to spare, Maybe los isnt the place for you ) , And seeing as your getting one you might as well get a 10year one because it saves a lot of hassle ie.. Having to apply again in 5yrs instead of 10yrs....

It was bad news all round yesterday so, My cancelled, Back on flight has now been cancelled again, So now I had a choice between phuket air or lufthansa so I decided to go for the lufthansa one, I just hope there an ok airline
It was not all bad news though as they where 100euro cheaper than the china airline tickets, So thats nearly an extra 5000bt for the LBFMs

I think you can have then "unused" time added back onto your new passport (at least in the UK).

As far as I can tell, if your passport is valid for more than 6 months after your intended departure date you should be Ok, but to be sure I would check with the Thai embassy.

Same rule all over the world, IJ. A passport must be valid 6 months after departure date wherever you go. he he, authorities need to eat too

'fraid so, Jonny. I think it's the same nearly everywhere - minimum six months. r3aps, not so sure what the deal is with temporary 1 year passports, but I'd suggest getting it in motion now - the last thing you'd want is to get turned round at LOS immigration (or anybody else's immigration) and it does happen. It happened to a colleague of mine just last week; he had to go all the way back to the UK after getting refused entry into Oman because of a tiny visa technicality.
