Rugby
Any body know of any rugby friendly bars in Phuket/Bangkok where I'll be able to watch the six nations?
And I know replica footy shirts are available in Thailand, but what about rugby shirts, any body know any shops?

This is a constant annoyance with me.. For some reason (especially Thai owned or managed) they will watch any old crap football match in preference to rugby..
I have already made arrangements with Terry from the winchester (formaly TJ's) that any time six nations is on the big screen there can be used..
Drop me a PM as I will be making every effort to not miss a match.. Good to get a bunch of us..

It might be worth trying some of the Aussie bars, in particular The Sailor Bar on Beach Road, as they tend to screen the Aussie Rules and Rugby for their fellow countrymen. As long as the games don't clash with their own games, highly unlikely, then you should be in business, but best to wander by a day or two before and ask.
cheers

One issue we get is that 6 nations and other euro games is that the time difference put it on in the evening.. Lots of bars will compromise and leave a TV on for me but its a rare place that will turn the music off and let me have the commentary..
Oz and NZ games on early or at lunchtime are easier to get both on TV and audio..
Of course if we get a hard drinking posse together we have enough purchasing clout to get what we want done..

When I was there in '99, I met up with an Aussie called 'Diver' who has a bar on Surin beach. He is a major rugby fan, and will guide you to where you can watch anything oval ball related.
As regards shirts, I took a few over with me and the Thais were continually asking me to either sell them to them or 'borrow' them for a short while. As some were quite unique, as they were worn by now famous players, I naturally declined. I have no doubt copies will be available though. Diver actually has a pair of Iestyn Harris' shorts, they were actually worn by Iestyn in the Wales v England match in '95 I think it was, played at Cardiff Arms Park. I swopped these for a St George top. I also have Paul Sculthorpes actuall shirt from the same match.

Dawseys absolutely right. It was played at the Arm Park, I should know, I was on the bench and helped strap up Neil Cowies leg when he got injured. I remember thinking this guys thighs are bigger than my body. The then coach of Wales RL, and now assistant Wales RU coach, Clive Griffiths, is one of my closest friends. I have worked with the Welsh RU as well since Griff has been there. Now then, I wonder if they could arrange a trip to LOS??, mmm, think its worth suggesting.

Wish I could share your optimism for Sat diz,if we win it will be down to the forwards again.Ours are better than the Welsh, but its more even in the backs with the English injury list
Should be a great tournament though and if I had to put money on it the Irish would be my pick,as much as it hurts to say.We shall see

Yes we have a great chance this year but the tag of favourites never suits us, And we normally blow it, But this time I think is our best chance especially since we have the two best teams at home, I hope we do it but the french will be our biggest threat, And I wouldnt look to much further than them for the winners.

France Have Great Show But Reckon England Will Be Hard To Beat.
Ireland Have Improved Heaps In Last Couple Of Years And If They Can Handle England And Frances Forward Packs Could Win It!

With recent injury news I would personally lower england a hair and raise Ireland a notch from those odds.. In fact 4:1 ireland is a tempting set of odds..

I'm gobsmacked that the WRU would let league be played at Cardiff Arms Park, they used to ban guys for even talking to Rugby League teams in days gone by.
I bow down to superior knowledge if you were there.
I would say money talked, but there was only 6,000 odd there, bet that created some atmosphere.....

Kiwi Hitma's right. The Black Sheep Bar is almost bound to have it on. From what I remember, the bloke who runs it as mad keen on the egg chasing.
In 2003 I saw nearly all the world cup games in various bars around Patong. Most of them had it, but that might have been because the schedules didn't clash with the football. In one place, I remember I was the only farang in there. It was good crack, because the Thais didn't seem to have any clue about the basics of the game. They thought it was some sort of slapstick comedy and laughed uproariously whenever there was a crunching tackle.
