Lucky Me
Hi guys
Excellent forum – wealth of info
I have won a prize (partners included) on the Star Flyer clipper ships.
We will be departing Singapore (18th) and will sail to Phuket - 8 days
Fly to BKK overnight (25th)
Capped wirh a Gala evening in BKK on 26th Feb
I have extended my stay and will be staying for a further 14 days
departing on the 12th March
This is my first visit to the LOS and I cant wait
Need some help pleeze
I have (through this forum), planned a trip as follows:
26th Feb overnight BKK
Feb visit Pattaya and Area
Late overnight train/bus/ferry to Koh Samui
28th– 3rd overnight accom arrange on arrival – poss Seascape Beach resort
4th–8th Fly to Phuket overnight accom arrange on arrival – poss Patong Villa
Have to ARRANGE a few long WALKS or TRIPS solo here
9th–11thEarly ferry to Koh Phi Phi spend few hours on Island. Same day Ferry
to Krabi overnight accom arrange on arrival – poss Au Nang beach
12th Fly to BKK to connect to flight to South Africa.
Two questions
1) Am I taking a chance finding accommodation on arrival??
2)Is driving as unsafe as they say??? I really would have liked to
have done the balance of the trip from Samui (Sarathani)
in a hired car returning to Saruthani to fly to BKK.
I have been put off by having to take the blame if involved in an accident.
Does insurance not protect you???
ALL SUGGESTION WELCOME, HATE TO MISS SOMETHING

1) you will always find somewhere to stay, but just turning up may mean doing a lot of searching around if places are full. Why not make a note of a few hotels on the internet that you like the look of and choose one that you like the most. Then, phone up and make a reservation. This gives you the option so that if you arrive and don't like the place, you can check out and try one of the others.
2) I have never driven but as long as you don't "assume that it will be the same as back home" then you should be OK. If you go with the flow you should be alright, but remember to look around for motorbikes, your accident if you have one will be hitting one of these because you didn't see it !!
I have been 7 times to Thailand and although I can see that their driving etiquette is not too great, I have never seen an accident.
Good luck
Diz

Thanks, makes me feel better.
I have a list already.
I dont know where we are sailing to(changes due to Tsunami)
and will get confirmation on 2nd Feb, but we were going to stop
for lunch at Krabi on route and I would do a quick search if this
is possible. Also sail trip ends at Phuket, hoping to have time to
do the same there.I would prefer to drive from Samui to Phuket,
there seems to be a lot on route to see
Something interesting .
The trip to LOS that I won was ON/OFF
due to the Tsunami. The Tour Group is over 200 Persons
accommodated by 2 sailings on the Star Flyer.
The group comprises a mix of people from all over the world,
as each country had a winner.
The initial concerns were disease, damage/infrostructure etc
HAPPINESS IS – the trip was finally given the go ahead.
Reason was to support the Country and even better,
the Company also donated USD $1,000,000.00 to the relief fund
This mix and number of people should promote tourism BIG TIME
just by word of mouth.
Thanks again for help

Sounds like you will have a GREAT trip to look forward to, id realy like to go sailing sometime but i get madly seasick on small boats that doesnt go fast.
As for accomodation, i would book hotel for the first night, can be quite tedious to drag around the luggage.

Thanks for the tips
I would think that I will probably stay with the Planes, trains and
ferries for the longer trips and then work on local transport
for my small trips wherever I am staying.
Although I read that the buses arent any safer.
What is in my favour is that we drive on the left here and our taxis are a law unto themselves. They also skip robots and weave all over the road.
I might find driving no differant
but I will guage that when I arrive.
I will keep the forum updated. This clipper trip looks great.
Jimholio, there are tabs that help and even an injection for
seasickness, just remember to use it a few days before your trip.
Most people dont believe they work, because they take it when they start the trip.
This forum deserves all the praise it can get.
