SMS to Thailand
Hi Guys,
Can anyone advise what codes etc need to be used for texting Thailand from the UK. For example if the Thai mobile number is 0123456 would you send the text to 660123456?
Cheers

00 for international dialling code
66 for country code
then number - the number starts with a zero, then don't dial it.
Examples
for 012345678 you dial 00-66-12345678
for 87654321 you dial 00-66-87654321
Tip : buy a cheap rate phone card, available from most newsagents, corner shops etc. I have found that one called "Go Bananas" gives you the most talk time. For a £5 card you get well over 2 hours and that includes calling mobiles.

No - you are wrong, you don't add an extra 6.
if you are dialling 06123456 then yes, from abroad you dial 00666123456, but if the number is 123456 then you dial 0066123456.

Yep, mobile networks are 01,06,07 and 09, which, statistically, makes 25% of all BGs minions of Beelzebub for farangs calling from abroad.

Dont put 00 66 into your mobiles instead hold down the 0 key until you get a + come up..
This way whenever you travel and roam the international access code is added by the operator.. Hence you 00 (country code) (number) gets converted to 001 (country code) (number) automatically when in Thailand..
I used to have to work a lot with my phones from a lot of countries and learnt the hard way to always key in a number with full + and country code and then its all transparent from then on...

As LivinLOS pointed out, always use + when you use mobile phones, it will work from everywhere and always strip the first 0 in area code at the beginning of local numbers.
So a SMS to a typical mobile in Thailand is +6691234567 if the local number is 09-1234567.

I used the free sms already several times. Seems to work.
For calls from germany, there are a lot of call by call prefixes, like
01029 or 01066, the going rate now is less than 9.5 cents per minute for
calling a thai mobile phone, about half the price of calling a german mobile phone.
using my mobile phone, I prefer Comnet (prepaid)
http://www.CallingCardShop.de
they have a new phone server now, where you can register all
your phones online with your account. After this step you can just
dial through to your thai GF. It costs me
11 cents per minute and 3 cents to my cellphone provider EPlus.
Good sound quality. Use it now nearly every day to call my GF.

Hi Aussie dollar, always use the + sign, even for your local friends. 66 is the country code for Thailand.
If you add +61 for your Australian friends phone numbers, then you can call them both from Australia or from any other country you wish to call them from without to bother how to call outside that specific country.

If you were standing next to each other in Thailand, you would dial her phone without a prefix (because you are on a Thai network), she would call you using the Australian prefix (61) even though you are standing right next to her. But as Nicke says, using the + passes the buck to the network software to sort out what's needed.

Long, long story on the terms and conditions and I tried to concentrate, but could not. Real boring stuff. So filled in the form and guess what ..... my mobile phone keeps beeping non-stop of another annoying SMS received. I get woldwide sport trivia questions and dating requests from old grannies from my home country. I can reply to six of these SMS's free of charge, of course.
No where in the terms and conditions I can figure out how to stop this. So in the end I decided to leave my business phone where it belongs. At work.
It did cross my mind to reply to the dating requests and get myself kicked out of this service.
