Phi Phi
Not hearing enough about Phi Phi and I cant find a good source of information
Maybe some people that live in Patong or anywhere in Thailand can give some sort of update?

I've seen all of the sites search engines can reveal and there just doesnt seem to be a steady source of information coming in, I was really hoping someone who lives in Phuket or anywhere in Thailand had information or heard more than whats to offer online, I still have every intention of returning to Phi Phi this Summer

Its going to be an awful long time before Phi Phi(Its only been 5-6wks) will get back to anywhere near normal, It was one of the worst affected places along with khoa lak, I dont think it will be up and running again until maybe the end of the year from what I have heard, And even then what exactly will be there to go and see?
Nearly all the places there where illegally built and the goverment said they will not be built again, So the only way its going to be rebuilt is if the goverment give it the go-ahead, And then even if that happens it will be done on there terms ie:they will control the place and it will probably get alot more expensive and become a lot more commerciallised .
And if they start banging up hotels all over the island dont you think it will lose that certain charm which lures people into it, I loved it there exactly the way it was but unfortunatly it will probably be never like that again

I didnt think Phi Phi ever really had alot to go and see to be honest, it was just the nicest place to flake out during the day, get massages and then have a good night life. After leaving Phi Phi I said to myself I want to get married there someday :/
I loved it exactly the way it was and I know its not going to be like that but it can be just as nice once they dont over crowd it with hotels and other stuff.
I'll pay someone to go over and get some photos of what its exactly like right now!

I read somewhere that it's gonna take well over a year to restore Phi Phi, anyways i think it's still forbidden to visit Phi Phi for tourists? isnt it? So thats probably why there arent alot of reports on it.

You owe me 500 baht. Go to this link: http://www.phuket.as/diary38.asp. Will go back to Phi Phi on February 11 for an 3-days vacation on Long Beach. Since it was a day trip I only had time to take pictures from Long Beach, Tonsai and some parts of Phi Phi Don Village.

Suntequila,
Your images are spectacular. I know it's mostly your skill that makes them, but what kind of camera and lens are you using?

I am using Canon EOS 300D with the cheap EF-S 18 - 55 mm lens. For the moment it's good enough for my use.

Well, you're obviously very skilled with it. Most people don't realize that great photographs are taken by skilled photographers regardless of the equipment used. I have the Nikon D70 which I really enjoy, but didn't get to use much when I was there because I spent to much time on Bangla Rd and slept in too late. I'll be there again on March 1st and I intend to spend more time exploring beautiful Phuket, and capturing it with the camera.
This is a link to the shallow use I made of my camera during my first trip to LOS in November.

Yes, it will take some time before Ton Sai can welcome tourists back. Walking in the main street at Phi Phi Don Village is like walking trough a war zone but at the sculpture outside Phi Phi Scuba Diving Center it looked almost as normal. As we walk towards Loh Dalum Bay it suddenly get much worse. Here all the bungalows along the beach is destroyed. Long Beach was lucky and only had minor damage.

It`s pretty normal that it`s gonna take a long time to rebuild and clean up everything. Patong, Kata, Karon and other areas are good reachable. There it was easy to acces with all the heavy equipment. PhiPhi is pretty small island you just cannot put all the equipment on such a small place plus you have to go to mainland to bring back the rubbish and new building materials. It`s gonna take a while but they will be back.

aussie dollar,
Have you seen the picture of Hippo Divers? My picture was taken the day before Phuket-Photos.com took their version of the same motive. Very fast cleanup.

Its amazing how things can change so quickly from day to day.
dont believe that if this happened here in aus we could get things back to "normal" as quick as has happened in phuket.
your photos are great have one as desktop photo on my computer
http://www.phuket.as/diary38.asp 14 photo down
compare with photo below taken 1 day later ?
