Why would you want to?
Any place I rented a motorbike just said bring it back when you're finished and left them with my passport. I've never had a problem without a license either. I am sure most places will offer you discount if you state that you want a motorbike for this amount of time, I do prefer to rent the same motorbike out for a few days only then rent from somewhere else because whatever way I drive or maybe is just bad luck I manage to get scrapes.
Mark.

Thanks for you response - but I did not ask about renting a motorbike. Why I would want to buy one will remain private. Cheers anyway mate. :-)

Just a hunch But please dont tell us you are buying it for a BG The one you fell out with in koh samui to be precise(som) which you only met for a week or so on your first trip to LOS? And now you think she is madly in love with you, Maybe im wrong but I think your getting in well over your head to soon mate IMHO, Of course its your life but all I can say is these girls have a lot of practise making us farangs feeling pretty dam special but what you need to remember they are prostitutes who sleep with men for money full stop, Sorry if I sound harsh here and I hope honestly everything works out for you but be very careful.
PS: The reason why I think this is because I remember you asking about property in LOS and going to meet her family, But If I am wrong then just forget everything I said

I think there is no problem buying a motorbike, you just give the dealer the money and you get the papers. But ask first for the insurance. Maybe they have falang prices for this, which would topple your calculation.

when I think about motorbike, I mean a chopper or up, not a small Honda. The small Honda you can buy at the Honda shop in Patong near the little bridge on the road going to beach to Karon crossing. Bought there once a new one for my GF, automatic transmission, was about 40 000, I think. She kept it in her room beside her bed and cleaned it every day.

The only 'chopper' that bar girls should be sitting on is the pink one that dangles from your plums

I have a friend "Victor" living in Patong (some expats may know him) and he posed the question about 2 years ago to the Phuket Gazette. Bying a motorbike is possible as expat, but I thought it was a not as tourist. Maybe you can pose the same question again to the Gazette.
Buying a motorbike for a BG can be fun, if not for you for some others.
I heard the story from Karen, manager from Rock Hard, who told me about 7 years ago of a dancer who got a bike from 5 different customers. She had 1 bike but 5 guys were proud they bought it for her

So all the rest is true then
By the way there was a thread about this before and I think you can own a motorcycle on a 30day visa providing you are renting an apartment, As you have to have an address(Hotel wont do), Hope that helps.

Yes it is possible..
The bike must have the compulsury gov insurance (and tax) the 2 stickers on it.. You must have the previous owners ID card and Tabien Baan (house registration paper) as well as the bikes green book.
You go to immigration and get a proof of address slip.. You go to Phuket town and either you go with the person listed (easier) or you collect a paper and the owner must sign it.. You do all the paperwork and then have to come back 5 days later to collect the green book with your name then in it.
Its not a difficult or complex process but not everyone there speaks english and as you are dealing through windows at a counter you dont get much assistance or support, definately take a Thai with you if you can.
Alternatively if you go to the Free Wheel Saloon on Soi Sai Nam Yen and ask to speak to Rung he can get a Thai fella to run around and do all the bullshit for you at a minor cost.. Also a top guy if your paperwork is bent or has problems (eg previous registered owner is missing or you dont have ther ID or Tabien Baan) he seems to be able to wash away a few of these problems..

55555... Hit a nerve there mate Listen I was only giving you a little bit of good advice but if you dont want it fine, I would not like to see any BM jump into a relationship with a BG and get his heart broken, But hey if you dont see that I was only trying to give you some good advice(Not malicious) from an outsider looking in well im very sorry for offending you, Please accept my apoligies and I can assure you it wont happen again
