Kata Beach in February

Anybody know the current status of Kata Beach? My folks are thinking about staying in either Mom Tri's Boathouse or the Kata Beach Resort at the end of Feb. Basically I recommended this beach area for them from my memories of from last October.
How if at all was it affected by the Tsunami? Is it ok to visit now?
Also, does anybody have any views on these hotels.
Cheers,
PARA.

i think mom's got damaged a little. the beach itslef is fine, although now have no chairs so have to bring towels to lay on. i stayed at kata seabreeze for 1200baht and it was really nice. its right near club med. not right on the beach, but a very nice hotel with rooms directly in the swimming pool. it was discounted from 4200baht

Cheers Marc, how's the vibe down there at the moment? Obviously not as busy as normal, but as it's their first time I don't want to recommend them going to Kata if a lot of the bars and restaurants are shut. Maybe they'd be better in Patong if this is the case.

everything is open, but was absolutley dead. for example, i went to buffalo steakhouse in kata, whihc is usually packed, and it was my table and one guy eating alone and thats it. but nothiong is open, and i would think that your parents, like quiet, they should stay there and go to patong by tuk-tuk a couple nights

I rode to Kata Noi this moirning and swam there. It was great, quiet but really nice. Kata seems quiet but there are tourists there. I would stay there for sure. Seems much better for a quiet time than the other places.

Don't know why you would want to go to Patong from there, unless you enjoy being hassled by the countless touts.

Kata

I got back from Kata 4 days ago. Little mermaid has its bungalows full and the Danish Inn on the corner was fully booked.

The vibe was really nice and the people were wonderful. I give it 5 stars - I only wish I could go back today.

Your folks should definatly check out the Mellow bar in Kata for a drink or twelve and some civilized company. www.mellow-phuket.com

Location of Mellow

Hi Tintin,

I'll do my best. OK, imagine the coast road driving from Karon beach to the main part of Kata. Mellow is 2 minutes walk from the junction where you turn left for the little mermaid and were the Kata Center Inn is.

Don't turn left to the mermaid but continut to the fork in the road. Take the right hand fork and you are there, 5-10 meters from the fork. Their phone number is 076 330633.

It is a super relaxed place where ex-pats drink. Easy to make friends in. Bring your own lady. I have taken several girlfriends there and had a wonderful night each time.

Enjoy

Kata & Karon Beaches

Just came back from LOS yesterday. We also stayed at Little Mermaid which is a great base. Now there are sunbeds and parasols on both of these beaches which are stunning - there are people on the beaches enjoying the fabulous sunshine, beach sellers trying to get back to normal, massage ladies and places to get your drinks etc., NOW IS THE TIME TO GO THERE ! ! ! Even our flight with Thai both ways was quite empty - plenty of spare seats to have a sleep ! !

If I understood you well, then it must be the part that goes around the Club Med, to the beach, where there is also an Italian restaurant, also the road to the entry of Peach hill?
