Arrived back in UK from LOS on Friday to find snow on the ground at Heathrow - uurgghhh, that I did not need. Luckily the car started in the long term after being sat there for two weeks, about the high point of being back in UK.

Quick comment on the Allamanda Laguna hotel - pretty decent place, though rooms not as nice as drawings (lack of photos probably a clue in itself) on their web site. When I checked in they asked if I was staying alone, I said 'no, just off to collect the gf from Patong', gave them her name, and that was that, no ID asked for and no grief, though had booked the room for two to start with. In retrospect a bit too far to drive into Patong, but the beach was peacefull and the area was quiet, and that was part of the idea. Payed 65USD a night. The associated spa is superb though - cost £110 for two and a half hours of massage etc (no 'extras') for both me and the gf (plan was for her to go by herself, but 'too shy') - will do that again.

Had dinner one night at the Baan Rim Pa (just beyond the north end of the beach near Novotel) - excellent food and service and a bill that came to about £35 in sterling. Will return without doubt.

Just booked return flights with Opodo for May 1st - 15th. Six days in Bangkok, which the gf does not need to know about, then down to Patong with her for the rest of the stay. Flights costing £410 which seems like a pretty decent deal.

Shit, it has started snowing again....need a beer. Anon

Yes AM, but I asked where he got the deal!

I tried to book there for the family and the rates were much higher!

Got it of the phuket.com site; it was the featured hotel of the week / month when I was booking. The offer still seems to be up on their own site...

The best thing about it is the rooms are very big, but after having stayed there, I would suggest coughing up the exta $15 for an upgrade from a junior suite to a one bedroom.

Their spa is called The Angsana.
