Unhappy Tsunami update

Jusr received this update comment from inside Thailand:

A LOT of people who promised money in front of the TV cameras 'forgot'
to actually give it up.

A LOT of the charity money has been 'misplaced'.

A hell-of-a-lot of victims have been given nothing.

And finally there has been an outbreak of 'landowners' along the west
coast of Thailand who have re-appropriated the land so the villagers
have no-where to re-build their homes.

Very dissapointing, though not totally unpredicted

Hey folks, wake up and live in the real world. It is always the same. When large amounts of money are around there are also bad people who try to steal from it. I had this discussion several times when people asked me wether to give money for the victims. They had especially this fear. But i think that can not be the reason not to help. The best thing you can do is watch carefully who you give the money. And calculate that there is a risk it will get lost anyway.

Thats why you should always do a bit of research before donating money to a charity, For example about 6-8 months back one of the big charity organisations here in dublin, Renovated there offices with the money people give for people who really need it, Just so they could work in a nicer/better enviroment, And thats not all they also went out bought a painting for the wall for 60,000euro And it would probably be still hanging on the wall only the press heard about it, And they sold it under public pressure So it happens everywhere and its storys like these that do make people think twice about donating

I think the best ones though are the goverment funded ones, We have one here(The Irish Red Cross). Which means every penny you donate goes straight to charity as all the admin costs the goverment pays for, And they can also keep an eye on where the money is really going.
