First rains
We got the first storm of the season today, and over at Chalong the winds were very strong, sky was as black as black could be and then also the rain. We lost power at some stage.
Now sitting in Patong, the sky is still black as, but fast moving clouds, so perhaps no more rain for Patong at least for the time being. I hope so, as tonight they have a festival sort of thing on the beach.

Yes, I lost power for maybe one hour. They also said on TV one boat from Phuket to Phang Nga turned over and 10 poeple died due to the storm.
The good thing is that we got more water in our water reservoirs, Patong is often out of water this time of the year.

Hi Simon,
I expect to see sun and bluesky again tomorrow. Also before the rain come this afternoon it was sunshine and hot. So I dont think you should expect bad weather, just a few days of the month.
It gets dark around 18:45 - 19:00.

Update on the accident at sea.
They saved 37 people on the boat to Koh Yao in Phang Nga, 10 people died and 9 people went to Wachira hospital, two of them then died later. One of girl at hospital who is very ill is pregnant.
Mostly Thai people and probably no tourist on the boat, they also said the boat carried lot of things, e.g. motorbikes.

Definetly starting mate.
Was on the ferry in the Riau Islands earlier today and the sea was as stormy as all hell - The boat was in roller coaster mode for a fair bit. I loved it but my LBFM was a bit panicky lah
Have they got everythign sorted with the Tsunami damage with the wet settling in???

Will be interesting to see what happens when the rain really settles in. I cant stop thinking about where all that sand went too, obviously down the drains.

Does Phuket have water problems often during the year? Do restrictions go up at all? How long does it last?
(Been looking at properties around Thailand and currently siding with Phuket at least for initial 6months/year or so renting to see if it suits me)

Strange, I never had any rain in March. Even in April, last year the weather was terrific.
Another accident is certainly not good for business. I hope that the people are allright.
The rain also stopped here in samui, but it is cloudy and very windy.
The locals are happy with the water, but being on holliday, having had one sunny day since wensday is not always great.
Forecast says it is going to be better here tommorow, but that there is another storm in Phuket, when we arrive.

Water problems have been a little less inthe last 2 years but the year prior to that Patong anyway had very low levels of water available and rationing (cutting it off) for large parts of the day lead to water hoarding and everyones tanks filling at once when it was put back on !!!
Not only is there sometimes water supply issues there is also water pressure issues.. I know of some multi million villas that end up going dry for months of the year and having to buy water from supply trucks.. Not much use having a mega villa and not being able to flush the crapper !!! Many well thought out homes will have large underground storage tanks to avoid and get by from a dry spell..
Sinking a bore is often cheap (IMHO) and free's you from the local supply issues..
